Do I have Anal Warts?
« on: February 25, 2008, 01:06:37 am »
Reading the "poz on poz" threat, it seems to me that guys on this board are much more experienced than my doctor. So here goes my question:

I had bb sex Mar. 07. I was the bottom. Early April, I felt the "flu" like syptom but tested neg on 4/24. Early September, I felt something growing inside my ass around the ring, nothing outside by then. I went to see my PCP doctor Jan. 08, but he couldn't tell what those were so he refered me to a GI doc. (I was tested poz at my PCP). GI doc ordered a colonscopy on 3/27, although i suggested why he couldn't just treat me as warts. Then I had some more rough sex (all protected). Now something is growing on the outside around the ass now, I guess some skin was torn so the germ went to grow there also?

Going on colonscopy is scary, and I am not sure whether that will cure this problem. Shall I call my PCP and have him change me to a demertologist?

thank you in advance for your advice.

A colonoscopy doesn't "cure" anything, it's a diagnostic procedure. A camera in a flexible tube is shoved up your jacksie and your colon (your large bowel) is examined. Anal warts (if they are present) should be able to be diagnosed without the need for a colonoscopy, but if that's what your doctor has ordered you should do it.

More generally, bumps or lumps "growing" around your boy-pussy may be indicative of anal warts (which is caused by a virus called the human papilloma virus). Warts can be treated in a number of ways including surgery, cauterisation (having them burned off), medications and chemical treatments. Some strains of HPV are associated with the development of certain kinds of cancer so it's important to have this dealt with. A doctor specialising in sexual health would be the best person to advise you about anal warts.

Alternatively the rough arse-action you've been enjoying may simply have led to the development of haemarrhoids (varicose veins of the anus and rectum) or just good old scar tissue (arse-flaps).

Nonetheless none of this can be diagnosed over the internet and so you should work with your doctors to determine the real problem with your mangina.

Even if it turns out you do have warts ...don't freak out . I had some down there about 10 years ago and after treatment by a proctoligist (butt doctor)I cant spell proctoligest... they are all gone and I'm as smooth as a baby again. Just be carefull not to go for seconds or ya might end up with more speed bumps down the boulevard.

I saw some many years ago and they were little white bumps growing around the outside of the anus. They do grow inside too but a colonoscopy seems a bit much. I think there is somethiing they can just insert slightly to see whats going on. Could be wrong though.  Got any pictures?  I am just kidding there  :o  Good luck.

An anoscopy or even a sigmoidoscopy would probably be sufficient, but there are other reasons to have a colonoscopy too. It maybe that your GI thinks it's appropriate to have a look at your entire poop-chute at this time.

I'm sorry... he said that he had unprotected sex in march and had a growth in September... I was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes after exposure to actually get a wart...I had a wart years ago and I had not had sex for 2 years..It seemed pretty easy for my doc to get rid of it and I never had them again.

Heh. Now I gotcha. I must be having an AIDS fog day. :)

Yup, a wart or warts could certainly appear in that period of time. It's important to remember that, like many sexually active people, Alive was probably exposed to HPV long before then.

Be well,

Thanks guys, so it's a go for my colonscopy! I remember seeing some episodes on Today show that it's recommended for both guys and ladies to do it anyway to detect early stage of cancer. yeah, I better do it now that i have insurance... It's not the actual insersion scaring me, but the preparation.

Talking about STD... I myself had quite a few before. Had warts also. :-) That's about 15 years ago when i was still a  virgin, I think I got it from a public bathtub--we share that in China. I must rubbed my dick too hard on the bathtub wall. First on my penis, but the doctor at my college's clinic said it's just not clean (maybe he hasn't see an wart at all), so he precribed me some cleaning stuff and I washed it everyday in a basin. Problem is I washed both penis and ass in the same basin so the warts started to grow back there also. Another doctor at a more advanced city treated both with laser in 1 minute and they were never back...

I had syphilis also about 10 years ago. Got crabs once.

Should have been very careful in my March 07 encounter, but it's too late to regret...

Um Alive, that's not possible. HPV (the virus that causes warts) cannot be spread or contracted by rubbing your dick on the wall of anything. It's spread via direct skin to skin contact.

My doctor told me that before he could get me completely treated for my warts to be carefull with towels and bed sheets ....meaning that if they came into contact with the wart that my roomate could possibly get them from sheets and towels ...but my doctors have been wrong before.

yeah, I think this is right. I myself is an example. I was indeed a virgin back then. And if it's only transitted through sex, then how could that explain it spread from my penis to my ass? I wasn't a bottom until much later in life, before then, nobody ever touched that spot.

I didn't say it's only transmitted through sex, but skin to skin contact.

While it can happen that hpv is non-sexually transmitted, it still takes skin-to-skin contact. Please check out the following articles:

Yeah, quite a relief. My first time lying on a hospital bed; first time getting IV; first time being sedated. Wish they had kept me awake so I can look at inside of my colon, but I passed out as soon as the doctor came in.

Interesting, I didn't know they sedated you for a colonoscopy.  They didn't for my sigmoidoscopy, I got to watch the show on the TV monitor.

Interesting, I didn't know they sedated you for a colonoscopy.  They didn't for my sigmoidoscopy, I got to watch the show on the TV monitor.

Good point, now thinking back they might OD'ed me, because I remembered when I first put on IV, the nurse told me that the anesthesia (did i spell it right?) will keep me concious so that I can turn and change to a better position when needed, but as soon as they gave me something through the IV line, I became woozy then didn't remember anything until an hour later when I woke up in another room... Now I start to doubt whether the doctor actually performed the procedure or not. From the medical record I received last month, he did note that I am "agitated" and not a good patient basically.  ;)

-- I am kidding. I think they indeed performed the procedure and I indeed have hemoroid, no HPV, no warts, no cancer. All my pains and past fevers suddenly make sense, because they all happen after I had anal sex + long drive or plane ride + spicy food. I started sits bath, as recommended by internet and I am feeling much better now. Next week I will be in China, I am going to buy some chinese medicine and put them on and see how they works. Don't want to go through the lengthy American medical procedure for such a small problem: I need to see my PCP first, then he will refer me to another butt doctor that i need to see, then that butt doctor will make another appointment for me to go for surgery. I had met doctors 4 times so far since 1/22/08 for such a small problem and they are still there. This is ridiculous.

Its my opinion that you are creating a situation in which your medical issues become greater than they are in reality.  Hemoroids are usually treated by simple proceedures and specialists are not involved.  I never went to a doctor for any hemoroids I had.  I just got out the Preparation H and used it. Whether you use Chinese medicine on them or Prep H...its basically the same.

Yeah, I agree! Actually it's my first time navigating American medical system, never even had a cold before in my 8 years of American life. Maybe HIV made everything more complicated so the nice doctors decided to take extra caustion on me.

Oh thank you for reading my long post.  ;)

I also want to tell you that I had a colonoscopy last year and it was very easy.  (The clean out process was not fun but still it was right on schedule.)  I was under anesthesia for the proceedure. There was NO  mention of letting me watch any monitors or being conscious. Nope. I was out cold and when I woke up it was all over and they wanted me to dress and leave.

Do you have anal warts?  Well Aliveinla, I'd have to take a look see to answer that question
but others here have given some valualbe information on the subject.
Personally I had five or six blister like things circling my (love canal) on the cheeks of my
buttocks many years ago but they have never returned.  Talk about embarassing...
dropping my shorts back then was a new thing and I must have turned five shades of red
when he informed me I had herpes.  Yikes!

Fortunately I have not had any reoccurences since the seventies....

Welcome to the world of Western Healthcare.  It can literally be overkill.

I had a colonoscopy last summer and had the anesthesia.  One minute I'm on the gurney talking to the nurse, the next minute, the same nurse is shaking me, telling me to wake up.

The diagnosis?  Hemorrhoids.  Preparation H is the cure.  Prior to Preparation H I had excessive bleeding and became extremely anemic (hence the colonoscopy.)  Since the Preparation H I've been relatively symptom free.

Go to your local Walgreen's and pack a tube away in your suitcase.  You'll do just fine in China.

I am safely and soundly back now. :-) Considering my almost AIDS level CD4 count, I was healthy as a bull slept whenever I wanted, ate a lot, drunk too much (that's bad). My boss got sick so I had to sent him back with another airline...

I got several tubes of Chinese herbal paste. I think they don't really work so far although there is a cool feeling when applied. I need to get pep H later.

I would get and second opinion from a Doctor who is a Proctologist and has many years of experience.  One who is outside your doctors influence.  It could be a skin tag.

Hello Aliveinla,

How are you doing?  Well, I am not a medical doctor, but I have experience a similar situation.  I have an anal tag which forms around the opening of the anal area.  The causes of the anal tag is from trauma to the anal area during anal intercourse.  You need to make an appointment with a Proctologist or a doctor who specializes in the anal and colon areas.

PositivelyYours

I am doing great thanks. Skin tag? Seems you guys all suggesting that... But why even my GI doctor can't make a correct diagnose through a painful colonoscopy procedure? I still think mine is hemoroid since it hurts some time especially after I ate spicy food and sit in the car for too long. I had warts before it never hurts, skin tag seems not to hurt either. I will use Prep H and see where it goes then report back to share the info. Anyway, last week's plane ride to and from China was very uneventful because I was using prep H plus a Chinese herbal paste, and I took a warm water bath before boarding the plane. Haven't had sex for a couple weeks I guess I will try it in a few days and see whether my partner will even notice anything. If it hurts, I will stop.
