In Brief:

Positively Aging Project, the annual Coachella Valley conference providing practical information and inspiration for those living long-term with HIV, will bring together community leaders to improve the lives of older adults living with HIV for a hybrid in-person and virtual conference on September 23, 2023.

The virtual conference is free to attendees and open to the public. Presented by Mr. Bruce Purdy and Mr. Barrett Shepherd, this years’ event is a result of a unique collaboration among local service providers and organizations focused on improving the shared experience of older adults living with HIV.

People with HIV are living longer lives, thanks to advancements in scientific research and medical treatments: Today, 50% people living with HIV in the US are age 50 and above – that number that is expected to rise to 75% by 2030.

interesting. In the description for their sept 17 conference, I learned there's yet another subdivision of PLWH called Verticals (PLWH infected at birth via a "vertical" transmission through their mothers)


Peter Staley will be the keynote speaker on the 23rd. Is it terrible that I bought his book but still haven't read it? LOL Having lived through those days, I really have to gear up to read books dealing with that era, and quite frankly, I'm doing well enough these days that reliving the past is less painful but sort of a boring history lesson.

I still might sign up and pop in after our monthly virtual gathering just to see who all i know might be there and to catch Peter's speech.

This project seems very confused I. It's aims.

Is it for long-term survivors, or is it for aged people living with HIV?

The two groups overlap but only partially.  We have people in their 30s who have lived with HIV their entire lives and people in their 60s for example who are newly diagnosed.

I'm more than a bit angry at the way plwhas get forced into artificial categories because of a brain fart.

Work experience kids could do better.
