« on: January 27, 2013, 05:20:52 pm »
I have my blood draw tomorrow and normally the nurse will handwrite write "Fast for 24 hours" on the  sheet, but none of the sheets have the notation..I dont always have to fast but its been so long since my last test that I figured I would have too again this time.

Hepatitis A antibody Total
Hepatitis B cOre Antibody Total.
Hepatitis B Surface antibody.
Hepatitis B Surface Antigen
Chlamydia Trachomatis NAAT
Neisseria Gonorrhea NAAT
Quanititative Tb Gold
Vitamin D 25 Hydroxy
Complete Blood Count with Diff
Comprehensive Metabolic Profile

I hate fasting and I am a real ass when I have to fast and would like to avoid it if at all possible.

I have no clue, You tell me.. the tests are up there ^

If I have to fast, I will fast totally. I would hate to get a bad lipid reading because of some snack and then get raked over the coals for 3 months by all you Nancy's.

I have my blood draw tomorrow and normally the nurse will handwrite write "Fast for 24 hours" on the  sheet

24 hours?  That's brutal.  I've always been told to "fast" after 9 p.m. and have the blood work done some time before 11 a.m. the next day.

Then again, they know your history and your nasty habits.  They probably figured that it takes a full day for all that lard running through your veins and liver to properly settle.

The only test that requires fasting (from those you listed) is the comprehensive metabolic profile.  This test also includes a blood glucose test.  This panel checks all of you electrolytes and liver and kidney functions.

I've never seen a test sheet that didn't have it notated if it required fasting.

My Special Instructions line is always blank...as I stated above it's always handwritten on there. Which clearly is not the best way to do it.

I'm not sure what "gloppy gravy" is. But yes, they will be smothered in an amazing homemade cream gravy

I have pork chops in the fridge so I'll make those instead of cheeseburgers. Mine will be simply grilled with some garlic and served with saffron risotto. GRAVY IS NOT HEALTHY.

I really do worry about y'all's diets.  As senior citizens, you really should eat better.  I myself fixed a huge salad at work today that I'll be able to get several meals out of it.

Shouldn't this thread now be merged with the other "I don't eat healthy" thread?

Hey Will:
For the quan TB gold - you may want to check w/ lab ---- when I have had this done at quest, they only do it certain times of the day because it has to be picked up from the lab and processed stat in order to be accurate... Wouldn't want you to go there and only be able to get some of the labs done and have to go back for that one...

It's probably dredged in flour then "fried" in some oil in a cast iron skillet. Then you make a gravy out of the cooked bits on the bottom of the skillet.

No silly.  In a skillet you Just lay down enough oil to cover about half way up your chop and fry away.  Then you use the leftover grease to make your Gravy by adding flower and milk and whisking the hell out of it. Amirite Jeff!

nasty :o  slimy okra is disgusting. (although a spear or two simmered in a pot of beans for flavoring is ok - just don't eat it) the only way to properly cook okra is to coat in flour and fry. although pickled okra is interesting once in a full blue moon.

Come on man! You call yourself a true Southerner? Yes, Fried Okra is the SHIT, but Boiled okra with sliced toms and onion in it is tops too! and I LOVE pickled Okra also.

I must say Okra is one of my favorite foods.

Good catch, my dear. And yes, she lies all of the time about absolutely everything (her age for example).

Honey chile, please.  She's been using the same set of pictars from circa 1998 here and on her grndr profiles.

By the way, Guillermina... I echo what Doxie and Mike said before: slimy okra = vomititious.  Not only you eat whipped shit from a drive-thru on a regular basis, whenever you "cook" you come up with nasteh stuff.

Word.  And have you noticed how all of a sudden this is evolving into "[Mal]Nutrition, Wumpette Style -- Part Deux"?

Willy,

When in doubt - FAST!

However, Wolfie got it right, only the metabolic panel requires a fast.  CBC, technically, does not require it, but if you pour too much lard down just before, your plasma will look like milk and the lab instrumentation will not be able to count your cells.  I know, more info than you can handle, so..........

Stop eating NOW!!!

I've never been told to fast for the CBC.  I was going to next time, because my glucose has been like 112, and I wanted to see what it is when fasting.  Although, as I understand it, 112 would be expected after a meal, but it always flags as high.

I have never been tested for chlamydia, but I guess that's one you'd probably know you had?  And, what's an immunodeficiency panel?  I've never heard of that.  CD4 and all that?

You do know that a CBC and a glucose test are not the same, right?
You SHOULD fast for a glucose, unless it is taken as a post-prandial test.

Yeah, but isn't the glucose usually a part of the CBC?  I know it always lists glucose on the CBC report.  Perhaps they just list it under the CBC.  I've never had a glucose specific test, where I was told to fast.  The only time I've been told to fast was for the lipid screens.

From my experience

Testosterone  = no need to fast

Vitamin D 25 Hydroxy = no need to fast

Comprehensive Metabolic Profile = yes you need to fast because its included a fasted glucose test. CMP= Basic metabolic panel(BMP)+liver test

CBC = i never fast with this nor anyone tell me to, CBC don't test glucose level

For the longest time, and after hearing all the jokes about your eating habits, I pictured you as chunky.  I think there are also jokes bout lack of physical activity.  I pictured you eating that country fried steak and then lying on the couch to watch one of the Housewives series followed by a rerun of Walker Texas Ranger, with a tub of ice cream.   ;)

So, how do you stay in shape?  Do you exercise, or are physically active at work or home?  Good genes?  Or, are all the jokes very, very exaggerated?

Honey, Guilhermina's the one here who passes out when he jogs and/or has to take a stress test at the cardiologist. Obviously he wears Manx for his photo-shoots.

My new doctor tells me to always fast for my blood tests, so did my other doctor that used to send me to Quest.  When I do fast it's usually for at least 8 hours. I wake up late so I schedule my appointment so I can get up and get ready and head straight for the appointment.

I think I have been told a handful of times in the last 20 years to fast. I usually try to get my bloodwork done at the same time of day, but that's something I have done entirely on my own.
