So I had to get support hose today (expensive!).  The doctor said if the swelling isn't down by Thursday to make an appointment.  I was also told that the swelling on the upper inner thigh may not be normal (may not be?).  Told to watch for now. I think it may be, however, since there is so much bruising there.

I would be driving my doc up the wall with questions after a comment like that. lol. Watch out for what? Nervous Nellie I am.  :-\

Lol.  I believe as long as I don't feel "bad," I'm doing pretty good.  I'm not concerned at this point.  It's hard for me to sit still.  I have a pretty good pain tolerance, and don't like to stay inside and sit for a long time.  So this is going to be very challenging.

I'm excited to report that I am now walking with a cane, and no pain pills!!  I also went to Kroger today and was able to lean on the cart, and carry the groceries in.  I just put a few bags on each arm.

Also, today was my last day of physical therapy.  The therapist said I do not need outpatient therapy (she was coming to my apartment), since I do the exercises 3 x a day, which are about 10 exercises each, with 3 sets in total.

So, onward!

Glad the recovery is coming along nicely.  Now for goodness sakes, stay indoors the next few days.  You don't need a matching set of injuries. :o  Who knows what the weather is going to become, but it won't be pretty.

I'll try to take my own advice also.

Ah, you must have seen the upcoming weather reports/maps etc.    I just got back from the grocery store a little while ago; my hip is telling me to sit for a while lol.

And yes, you also stay inside!  Too bad we don't live closer, I could come visit and we could both stay inside and gossip. :D

That WOULD be fun.  :)  Perhaps when the weather breaks (assuming no further breaks to ourselves) we can arrange a fun weekend somewhere between us.  Hell, it's only a short distance when the roads are clear.  We have a large number of members here who live within a short jaunt also.

HELL yeah, Indianapolis is actually a pretty cool city.  Lousiville, and many other Midwest cities would work.  Columbus is awesome, but "been there done that" way too often.  :)  For the adventurous, I love Hocking Hills in southern Ohio.  It is very affordable and a blast.  I've been renting there for years and always find new shit to do.

They pretty much allow anything.  I've always taken my dogs.  A 2 BR cottage is around $200 for the entire weekend.  They have huge screened in balconies, a large living room with a sleeper sofa and a complete kitchen.  They're quite nice and we're allowed to have fire....oh...FIRE!

OH, and for the more adventurous, we can do white water rafting just another hour south from there.  I believe the new river gorge has the only class 5 rapids east of the Mississippi.  We'd have to do the lower gulley as you have to be certified to do the upper one.  I've been certified for years but I doubt most have.

Don,t you have to tie ? the cats down in new places because if they go outside the newness freaks them so they do the obvious thing which is to run off into it and there by get lost ? It would not be much off a holiday for them trapped in the travel cages while the dogs gambol around , going and coming back from walks with there humans , I think this might lead to some depressed cats.

I off course bow to your greater knowledge Mitch dear, in all things feline and only ask so I may learn.
Plus my well known concern for the welfare off cats.

Hope you are feeling a bit better today Betty. I was always told by the PT that if it hurts too much you're overdoing it. I understand your frustration. You seem to be making great progress so far. Hang in there!  :)

As for the cats Michael, I would never subject them to such a trip. Just fun to think about it. Jeff and Wolfie have expressed such great love and admiration toward the species and thought some quality snuggle time would be amusing to watch.  :)

Do you need some kitty snuggles too?  ;D

My cat doesn't travel well, I wouldn't take her.  Yes Michael, cats, at least my cat, get freaked out with new surroundings.

I am feeling some better today.  I've done my exercises twice today (have to do them 3 times), and have been staying down other than doing regular household stuff.  Yesterday I also went grocery shopping, leaning on the cart, and carrying groceries in.  I'm healing pretty fast, though, so I do not know if that bothered anything.

I would not dismiss it out off hand.

So I was correct and my concern for your felines was well placed.

Has Gay Pan got a handle on the world yet or is he still wondering what the hell is it all about ?

That is good to hear Betty . I have been away from the boards for a couple off days and did not like reading off your pain , sadly my lotto ticket did not correspond with the winner else I would escape the begging letters and come and do your shopping with you. So, went to my one-month post-surgical check-up and not that great of news....well, not horrid, but not what I wanted to hear.  Apparently I'm not supposed to be using the cane yet, my doctor still wants me on the walker so I won't put so much weight on my hip.

They took an x-ray, and apparently my bones are so osteoporotic that they're not healing as well as they should be.  I'll be having another bone scan done, then seeing the doctor's nurse practitioner that does their "bone health" program.  The last bone scan I had done was five years ago, and showed osteoporosis at that time.  My doctor had prescribed Fosamax but I didn't take it because of the side effects.  Anyway, I have to go back to the surgeon in a month.

So I went grocery shopping, lol  ;).....can't keep a good woman down!

Sorry to hear of your set back.  Is there another bone medication you could try?  Isn't there one that is given via iv that you only take one or twice a year?  Maybe that would have less side effects.

I saw that you were thinking about moving to Washington.  The rain isn't thatttt bad (relatively speaking) but our medical care is pretty top notch and the summers are absolutely gorgeous.  I hope you consider it.

Good luck.

I take once a month Boniva and it's not too terribly bad.  I just have to spend that day close to a toilet.  But it sure beats having more broken bones that are slow to mend.

best of luck

aw damn betty, so totally never read the posts, only just now knowing you have broken you hip. and joplin, so you're like... a hippy chick now huh (get it?) hairy legs and armpits, smell like patchouli?

are you still on a cane? i'm on a cane too! we can have sword fights! mine is cool, bent twisted wood, nice palm handle, beautiful grain.

wear those socks! my father broke his hip, had the same leg swelling after procedure. fool wouldn't wear his socks. i will not even go into the horror that it caused, on top of the hip. wear the socks like a good girl, even the medical tight ones you need the frame to put on, and help to take off

and get better dammit  ;D

Em, I'm doing okay.  Thanks for asking.

Michael, Channel Red?  Yes please lol.  I do love lipstick.

Zach, I did wear the sock on the leg that was swollen.  It's much better.  And no hairy armpits or legs for me.  I do have a Patchouli candle, however.

Yes, I'm still on a cane and will be for a long time.  Since one leg is shorter than the other, I get off balance pretty easily.

On the before-last post-op visit, my doctor said my bones are so osteoporotic it would take a year to heal.  Last visit, the bones are not healing.  May have to require a fusion at some point in the future.  I'm still holding out hope.  I told the doc to give it a few more weeks.  He said I need to do something about my osteoporosis.  I had an appointment to see his nurse practitioner that has the "healthy bones" program.  I cancelled it.

I know it's important to deal with this, and I will.  i have something else physical going on that I'm seeing my doctor for tomorrow.

Yesterday I had a visit from this man who used to live in the back apartment.  He was complaining about his bone issues, which he does non-stop and repeats all the time.  I told him we all just have to suck it up and go on.  So, that's how it is.  I'm sucking (it up) lol.  Thanks again for the inquiry.

Actually Betty was talking to me on the phone telling me awful news her hip was not healing and all I could do was giggle at the healthy bone program . How is that for friendship and support  ;) .

You'll get yours my pretty lol.

Actually, I don't know if I could have made it through the first couple weeks without the generosity of Jeff and a couple other members.  I owe a huge debt to these people, which I probably can never repay.

I would settle for a pole dance . I always wanted to see a woman on a walker pull that off .

Betty ... you have always been there for me and so many others on the forum so you have only reaped from what you sowed . I know you will pull through and heal in time because you are a LTS and a fighter .

A pole dance, aye?  Well, I'm no longer on a walker, and could probably swing around the pole, but may lose my balance and fall lol.  It's been a few years since dancing the pole; about 32 to be exact.

I would support you anytime, my dear.  I know I'll survive; when it comes to physical issues I try to suck it up and keep going.  I see people in much worse shape, so this is nothing.

Thanks again all for checking in.  Seriously though, if anyone would like to know how I'm doing, you can pm me or ask here.  I will answer. :)

Darlink Betty Cheri I knew there, was attention to legs , how could anyone think otherwise.I am forgiving Zack due to recent events as I imagine his antenna is usually sharper about such matters.

No, I had something else (physically) going on.  I will do that, though.  Soon.  Thanks.
