NYC doctor for head and neck radiation oncology
« on: October 01, 2018, 06:02:09 pm »
I have disfiguring swollen salivary glands in my face called parotid gland hypertrophy. California has been successful with treatment using external electron radiation but I'm trying to get treatment in NYC. Does anyone know of radiation oncologist in NYC?

Welcome to the forum,

Hopefully one of the members will have a suggestion.

As you are new to the forum, its customary to have an introduction thread first, so i moved this thread to living with HIV.  If you could share a bit more about how your doing, are you living with HIV? what are your latest labs VL/CD4 count like, how are you getting on with your HIV treatment etc

I am sure the other members can support you here

Presuming that you have health insurance, you may wish to consult your insurance for a list a relevant providers (who will take your insurance) in NYC.  Your insurance carrier would know.

I suggest you start there, if you have insurance, because I'm sure you would wish to be treated by a covered provider.

You know, that's a great idea. Yes I do have insurance The Empire plan/United Healthcare but the treatment I'm requesting is so specific. The radiation is not for cancer but is done by a cancer specialist so its kind of out of the box but I will try your suggestion. Thanks.

You're welcome.

No matter what the concern, check always with your insurance carrier:  never be shy or bashful to ask.  Be persistent, too, and ask more than once, if necessary (just as one would get a second medical opinion).

You are not the underwriter to you own policy, so how could you be expected to know all your entitled coverage under all applicable conditions?  A diligent consumer could save thousands of dollars asking the right question to the right person. Believe me:  I've been there and done that!

Keep this in mind, too, when wending through all of your pharmaceutical benefits, and be sure to compare retail pharmacy v. mail order.  Know your options, if you don't, call and ask in order that you be fully informed.

Best wishes to you and good thoughts your way for a successful resolution to your issues.
