Title: Really Scared
Post by: reallyscared2000 on October 07, 2012, 01:26:09 pm
I am really scared that I might have got HIV. 2 weeks ago, I had sex with an escort. I inserted her without a condom for about 10 seconds and then put on a condom. But foolishly, I removed the condom some time after. She said that she is regularly tested for HIV. I then had unprotected sex for about 30-40 seconds before anxiety got the better of me and I went soft and took my penis out without finishing the act. 3 days after that incident, I felt so scared that I might have HIV that I went for an STD panel test. I know that HIV should be tested after minimum 3 months after the exposure but I wanted to check for other STDs also. The test results showed that I was equivocal for HSV 1+2 IgG (the reading was 1.07). The doctor told me that shows a past infection of Herpes and there was nothing to worry about now(I did not tell him about my recent act). I also tested positive for Chlamydiphila Pneumoniae but nothing else. I checked on the internet and found that it is not a STD and is very commonly transmitted(I dont know why they tested me for that). I then started counting the number of days from the exposure to check for any symptoms I might start to show and started reading on the internet regarding the symptoms and stories about HIV. And exactly 11-12 days after the exposure, I started having fatigue, slightly sore throat, mildish fever. I know these are early symptoms of HIV. I have been living in fear for the past 2 weeks, not sleeping well, not being able to concentrate on work. My question to you is regarding the chances of me having the dreaded virus in my bloodstream. I was so scared that I called up the girl to confirm about her status. She said that she got tested about 1 month ago and even told me that she can go with me to get tested again. I was comforted by her answer and confidence but I still know that the tests are positive only after 3 months of infection. I am losing a lot of sleep over this and would be going for the test after 2 months. What do you suggest. Please help.

I am very sorry you cannot sleep.

You did have a risk. Any time you have unprotected vaginal or anal sex with someone, there is a risk of an STI. including HIV. Of course you know that, no reason to beat yourself up about it. Just use a condom from now on, ok?

The soonest you really ought to test is at the six week mark. A negative result then is highly unlikely to change. The "gold standard" remains three months, however.

You will likely need sleep between now and then. Please find a way to pass the time without self destructing. There are worse boogey-men than HIV in our world.

Hey thanks a lot for the reply..I know that I need to relax till I get tested...but you can understand that I am having trouble focussing with thoughts of the virus just multiplying within my body in the meantime...I just try and find comfort in the words of the girl that she gets regularly tested which means that she is concerned about her sexual health as well as what I have read on the net that there is lower risk of transmission from female to male and the briefness of exposure..I dont know why I am posting all this but maybe because I want some reassurance from experienced people like you and others  :'( :'(
