Title: to be worried or paranoid?
Post by: acouros on November 25, 2009, 07:43:58 am
Dear Ann and Andy,

I am sleepless since Novemeber 22nd. while i was in a club downtown Guangzhou, China, i met a chinese girl and after a few drinks we headed to my hotel.

the reception checked her name and kept a copy of her id. ( i am wondering whether she was a professional hooker having an ID)

we went to my room and i had her shower.

after i wore durex (blue) condom and we started having sex, after 5 minutes i changed condom (fearing it might break) and i put another one.
after 5 minutes the sex act ended with me finishing inside her.

i took off the condom and i checked both if there was a hole or anything but no. After some time because I was worried I put water inside condom to see if there was a leakage and no.
(i touched it with toilet paper)

during the time we had sex we did not even kiss.

all seem ok but i am deep worried cause of what?

next day i had increased heartbeat and i feel my penis a little achie (like balanitis - how it is possible since i wore all the time condom?) is it all in my mind? or i need to be tested? and how soon pls?

also, the hiv home kits are to be trusted? and how soon these can be used?can they be used earlier that 6 weeks?

what if she was HIV positive?

awaiting yours

acouros,

You did not have a risk for hiv infection. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection. It doesn't matter if she was hiv positive or not, you were protected by the condom. You do not need to test over this incident.

If your penis hurts, show it to a doctor. Whatever may be going on has nothing to do with hiv and we cannot diagnose your sore penis over the internet. See a doctor.

You had no risk for hiv infection and you do not need to test for hiv in connection with this incident.

Dear Ann,

thank you for the quick answer which i read thousand times...

however, i wonder though how some virus got past the condom and infected my penis? with the same logic hiv could past my condom right?

is it that of some great concern?

regards

You're letting your fears run away with you. If a condom fails it is quite clear what has happened. It's not about some itty bitty hole through which HIV will sneak into your penis. No, the whole thing goes and ends up looking like a fringed hoop on your penis.

You are worrying needlessly about HIV. Let it go and get on with your life.

We do advise anyone who is sexually active to regularly have a full STD panel. That's at least once a year because other STDs are much easier to acquire than HIV.

As far as HIV is concerned and this incident you are good to go.

Dear Andy and Ann.

I can't stop worrying cause I always believe that I am the unlucky one, or the exemption of the rule and I got tested on the 38th day after my incident.

The test I used was HIV (1+2) AG AB P24 CMIA and was done in a blood laboratory and came out negative.

Can you comment please on that result in terms of the period? Was that done early? Is the test accurate and I need to re do it?

I am sorry to bother you again.

Best Regards

At no time were you at risk of contracting HIV as you have previously been advised.

acouros,

You are conclusively hiv negative and you do not need further testing. You had no risk so you are not in a window period.

Of course every negative test result is a good thing. It's no surprise with yours since you didn't have a risk.

In risky situations, which I hasten to say yours was not, a  negative result at 6 weeks is very unlikely to change to positve at 13 weeks. You can continue to re-test if you insist for your peace of mind. There is no science-based reason to think you will continue to get anything other than negative results.
