Covid boredom and things.
« on: June 30, 2022, 05:26:09 pm »
So starting a thread that's not to discuss COVID or the vaccine but about things we did differently and achieved during the crisis.

For me boredom hit back in Jan 22, when we had our last lockdown, and  so I decided i wanted to grow things, my first time ever, didn't expect much but the two balcony's are now full and so is the green house. The tomatoes, runners beans and strawberries are growing well.

So the question is, anyone else do something new during lockdowns like study, learn or do something new?

I just began re-reading Anne Rice books to prepare for the upcoming AMC series. I doubt everything will be exactly like books.
AMC is planning to make a vampire series and a witches series. I’m more looking forward to the witches series.
The last time I read these books I was just out of high school. So it’s been some decades.
My daughter started an herb and vegetable garden. The only fruit she planted were strawberries.

The Vampire Chronicles?

Was not aware that AMC was making a series based on the books, could be interesting.

Well, hopefully, your daughter has more luck than I did with the herbs. Runner beans, strawberries, tomatoes are going fine but the herbs are a hit and miss in my balcony garden

oooooo. the Mayfair witches! I've got to reread those now too! Last time I read those... lordy! I just looked it up. 1990 was the Witching Hour. Good grief! I was reading that way back when my first partner was still alive!! I'm getting sooooo old!  ::) ;D

I set up two vegetable beds in the second sunniest part of our backyard. (the first sunniest spot belongs to the pool, of course) All the plants - okra, green bell peppers, cherry, roma and some of type of tomato, banana peppers, cauliflower and eggplant (never grown eggplant before and I've got one right now; but it's so tiny and cute) - we bought from a friend's greenhouse are doing fine. However the squash and cucumbers we got where my husband works (Lowes home supplies) gave up the ghost and died last week.

But it's okay. Here in semi-rural south carolina, everybody's got a vegetable garden. Today must have been after a "harvest" night. Two separate friends showed up today leaving several large squash and zucchini, the best large tomatoes I've had in forever, a baker's dozen ears of sweet corn, and some weirdo purpley-colored cherry tomatoes.

I don't know if those purpley-tomatoes are really any good; but I sure worked my ass off for them today. My friend and I spent half the afternoon putting up a metal fence around his garden to ward off the deer. Speaking of getting old, my back and neck and arms are so beat up now. Fencing up that 12X12 area was a LOT of hard work in the blazing sun. Luckily he's got a pool too, so it wasn't all work time. LOL

speaking of covid, two of our friends and my mom's husband have all had covid in the last month. My mom keeps testing and has been fine; but all the rest of them, even with the three shots, have all been quite ill off and on this last month. I'm wearing my mask everywhere again except the gym. (I quit the gym at the start of covid in mar 2020 and restarted last this year) Thankfully when I go to the gym it's very, very empty at 9am, so I figure the risk is very low. ;) it's all about harm reduction ;)

Tomatoes from the balcony are looking good.

There are about 60 green ones still, and I suspect they will be ready next week.
