Title: To PEP or not to PEP??
Post by: epitelarxis on August 12, 2022, 04:37:32 am
Hello everyone, I am a male who belongs to a high-risk population group (MSM).
Last night I met with a man who licked my anus a little and I performed oral sex on his penis for a while. There was a little precum involved but no ejaculation. There was no penetration of any kind. I asked him today and he says he uses condoms for penetration, and he's not aware of any STIs, but I don't think he has tested for HIV...
This morning I started worrying about last night's incident after reading some older forum members claiming they got HIV from incidents like mine...

Should I PEP or not??

Thank you for your time

Rimming isn't an HIV risk, as for giving a blowjob, the mouth generally lacks a route for HIV to infect, and saliva also neutralises HIV by damaging the receptors needed to infect human cells.

Giving a blowjob is such a minute HIV risk that it doesn't even warrant specific testing outside of the standard yearly screening.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms, and the only way of knowing is by testing.

Kind regards

Taking PEP is up to you, but I don't see any exposure that warrants that from what you posted here.

Although, PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis) might be more useful for the future as it would give you peace of mind next to an additional layer of HIV protection.
