The ONLY test which will tell you your HIV status is an HIV-specific test. The results of other blood tests and such are totally irrelevant in relation to HIV.

You haven't indicated why you think HIV might be an issue for you. If you have had unprotected intercourse, either vaginal or anal, then you need to get an HIV test. That should be done at 13 weeks past the most recent such incident.

As for your symptoms, there is nothing even remotely suggestive of HIV, but then neither the presence nor the absence of symptoms is ever the way to know about your HIV status.

Read the lesson on this site about Transmission and also about testing. You will find a link to them in the Welcome thread which opens this section.

You know, you need to test. Symptoms or lack of symptoms means nothing when diagnosing hiv. The symptoms that you have stated are not relevant to hiv. HIV has no specific symptoms.

As Rod has said you do need to have an HIV test. That should be done at 13 weeks past the most recent unprotected incident.

From now on every time you have intercourse the insertive partner needs to be wearing a condom. No exceptions. (You haven't indicated if you are male or female which is why I am referring to the insertive partner). It doesn't matter what you think you know about the history of the person you are with. Or how great they look. A condom is a must.

There's absolutely nothing in what you are reporting as symptoms which suggest HIV. You need to discuss your symptoms with your doctor. A good deal of what you're describing maybe stress-related. We can't diagnose anything here. That's what you have a doctor for.

And remember, always use condoms in the future. No exceptions.

dontknow

You donŽt need to go to the doctor for an HIV test.

Assuming you are living in the US, you can  buy a Home Access Test: http://www.homeaccess.com/

This test is fully anonymous and you can have the result in one day. YouŽll be given a number to call and the result is given over the phone.

Hope this helps!

Hey, I'm from Sydney, Australia, too.....

Have you done anything to put yourself at risk...? Speaking from my own personal experience, I have been celibate for about 6 years (through my own choice) and recently, I was scared because I kissed someone and rushed off to have a needless HIV test which of course came back negative. I actually haven't done anything to put myself at risk although I can't entirely shake off my irrational anxiety.  Sometimes, when an illness is as widely publicised as HIV is, it causes a degree of hysteria.

don't know:

From what I know, there isn't an anonymous HIV test available in Australia. You will have to go to a GP and have your blood drawn like everyone else. Having gone through a series of 'needless' tests myself, I know what the procedure is. You will have to wait for 5 days to receive the result.

A 'needless' test is one that doesn't need to be done because logically and rationally, there is no way one could expose themselves to any risk. However, as in your case, you have stated that you have had 2 instances of unprotected vaginal sex, so therefore I stronglu urge you to consider getting tested as soon as possible because in fact you have put yourself at risk.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and will have you in my prayers f9r a negative result for you. However, even if it comes back positive, just know that it is not the end. The wonderful people on this board can attest to that.

I'm here to offer support to you if you need it. Send me a private message if you want to talk. I'm not HIV positive, but I am a wonderful person and a great listener.

Did you mean " What is  a needleless test?" It's an oral test where they take swab tests of the inside of your mouth between your cheeks and gums. No blood is required for those tests.

Can they determine if your postive or not by doing that mouth check? and is that on the spot result or i have to wait

Ann,

Does that mean that only people who are HIV + are the only ones who can transmit their knowledge and offer support and understanding to others? I meant well......

I don't claim to be an expert, but I do know some information that could be of help......

I would imagine that the rapid tests are available in Australia. Ring your local hosptial and ask for the GUM or Sexual Health clinic.

Title: Re: HI NEW NEED HELP

I can't be of any help to you. I had no symptoms. Wasn't on meds for almost 21 years. Worked every week of those 21 years. So I really don't have anything that would be helpful, besides symptoms or lack of symptoms are no way to diagnosis HIV, nor does HIV have any specific symptoms.
Title: Re: HI NEW NEED HELP
Post by: Ann on January 04, 2007, 07:29:20 am
don't,

Every person's body is different and every person's body deals with hiv differently. There is no point discussing symptoms with you. Symptoms will not reveal your hiv status, only testing will.

The production of antibodies is the ONE thing that people with hiv DO have in common. You cannot see or detect the presence of these antibodies in any way except for an antibody test. Go have one done. Ignorance is not bliss, no matter if you are hiv positive or hiv negative. Go test.

don't,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

Anyone who has unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse risks being infected with hiv or other sexually transmitted infections. Hiv does not know what the sexuality of a person is, what colour they are, where they live, how they earn a living or whatever.

Hiv is an equal opportunity infector. Use condoms and protect yourself, regardless who you are.

Dont,

I've merged your threads AGAIN - please read the forum posting guidelines in the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) and get with the program already. Thank you for your cooperation.

Re-read your entire thread again. We've already told you the ONLY way to know your hiv status is through the hiv antibody test. Symptoms or even the lack of symptoms mean NOTHING when it comes to hiv. Go test and get it over with. There's nothing more we can tell you. Go. Test. Now.

Ok people those of you living with hiv , how does your body feel everyday? what kind of things happens to your body , i.e  when you wake up etc?
Title: Re: Stuck
Post by: Andy Velez on March 15, 2007, 05:07:45 pm
You're not listening.

At this point it's none of your business nor is it helpful to you, (even if you don't see it that way), for you to get into asking those who are HIV+ how they feel physically when they wake up. In fact it's downright stupid.

If you insist on continuing this kind of inappropriate approach you're going to get a time out. Consider yourself warned!

Cut the frabber jabber and get tested.

No kidding.
Title: Worried,Stressed,Need help
Post by: dontknow on June 19, 2008, 04:16:00 am
people iam very stressed for the last 18months i can't stop thinking every day now i need help and if someoen can answer that would be good

firstly , i travelled to another country , when arriving after going to the toilet i had diahreaa stool full of blood going to the toilet 4-5 times a day, with full blood coming out, i went into the hospital they put me in a bed and done different tests every day , from stool tests to normal blood tests and blood counts etc... everything came back good with nothing coming back bad , now it lasted 13 days or so,but as it went onto like the 8th day onwards i went to the toilet 1-2 times a day from 4-5, it was bright red colour and towards the end it turned dark maroon and they gave me medications and the stool became normal, i also had fever, now iam wondering what it could have been? as i asked the doctor he said no infections was picked up in the tests, so what could it be? also they done a Colonsocopy and one colonscopy showed Ulcerative Coloitis and another test showed No ulcerative colitis,

now iam worried as i have had unprotected sex with a female Only vaginal..3times,for 4-5 minutes each time.... once i arrived back to the country i stay at , i went to the doctors to do all sorts of tests like he done a CBC COUNT, then he done IgM testing , then he done like 10 other blood tests with urine tests etc.... and also ordered a colonscopy again and nothing came back in any of the test all the test results was normal.
now i have been stressing out thinking i have hiv , but i have never test for hiv but have done pretty much every other test , can the stress cause fatigue , i get that alot there are days when i dont stop thinking about it , but now iam recovered and have since done more blood test and my doctor keeps telling me everything is ok...

can someone help me and please explain to me what could have happend to me ? and if iam Male hetrosexual and i had sex 3times only Unprotected vaginal sex is it a big risk?

Don't,

I've merged your threads AGAIN. Just because you haven't been here in a while doesn't mean you don't have to abide by our posting guidelines like everyone else. Keep creating new threads and I'll start deleting them instead of merging them. OK?

Your bloody diarrhea has nothing to do with hiv. Keep working with your doctor.

As for unprotected intercourse, it IS a risk for hiv infection and you do need to test. Testing is the ONLY way to know your hiv status. The odds are in your favour of testing negative, but as you have had a risk you do need to test.

This has already been explained to you. You will not be allowed to use this forum as a place to play guessing games about your hiv status. Go test and get it over with.

No. IgM testing will not reveal your HIV status, that requires HIV antibody testing.
