Hello to all,

I have some questions about my fairly new insurance @ my employers that both me and my son are on. I noticed on the website when looking for Doctors/specialist in HIV they only provide internal Medicine Doctors. I wanted to know if any of you get treated at a internal medicine facility and are they as knowledgeable as an specialist working under infectious disease. Are they able to still provide you with testing properly on VL and CD4 counts etc. Also do any of you have experience with Chesterfield Resources they fall under shared Services with United Health Care. Has any one used this insurance for their treatment-care. Are there any loop holes with the insurance that maybe you can provide me information on.

All answers are welcomed.

Thank you all.

Kay--
Look to see if they list any Infectious Disease specialists (ID specialist is the shorthand).  That's what HIV specialists are.
Also, most insurance will require him to be referred to the ID specialist by a general practitioner (Internal Medicine).  That would be your family doctor, under the plan.
If he hasn't been sick and his numbers are stable, a general practitioner may feel comfortable handling the case.  If not, he will refer him to a specialist.  Either way, a general practitioner would be able to order all appropriate lab tests, and prescribe any medications.
As for Chesterfield Resources, it looks like they are the Health Benefits Administrator your employer chose for your health insurance.  They are brokers, not an insurance company.  United HealthCare is your insurance carrier.
I don't know any loopholes, but you should not let them rope you into getting his HIV meds by mail-order.  There have been serious problems with refills and deliveries, and there was a recent court case that they lost.
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth,
The minor fall, the major lift,
The baffled king composing Hallelujah!

There are some internal medicine doctors that do specialize in HIV care.   You can find them on the American academy of HIV medicine's website.  www.aahivm.org. Just use the find referral section and enter your zip code.
