Christine has passed, she is finally at peace.
« on: October 17, 2007, 07:51:43 pm »
Christine passed away today, October 17, 2007, 2:00 pm. This is her husband (Chris) posting this for her. She made me promise I would keep all of you updated as she cared very deeply for every one of you.

I want all of you to know how much I appreciate your kind words and support towards her. I really believe these forums helped keep her going at the times things were very difficult for her. She lived life to the fullest right to the end and fought this horrible virus with everything she had.

She started having mild fevers Friday evening, but nothing out of the ordinary. This continued into Sunday night when she had a fever that peaked at 103.9 degrees F. However, her spirits were up all through the weekend, she even worked on her crafts Sunday afternoon before the fever hit. Sunday night after her fever broke, she wanted to check her blood pressure. It was 70/35! Monday morning on the advice of her nurse and doctor, we took her to the ER. She was quickly admitted, but they could not stabilize her blood pressure which was even lower at this point, so she was transferred to the intensive care unit. Tuesday morning at 4:30 am she told me she couldn’t fight anymore and want to stop the blood pressure treatment, I told her it was okay.

The hospital (Hershey Medical Center) was fantastic, they let us bring in our dogs (4) one by one so she could say goodbye. As I’m sure some of you know, they were VERY special to her. After that at 2:00 pm on Tuesday they stopped the blood pressure medicine and put her on a morphine drip to help with her chronic pain and make her comfortable. We were told she should pass within a few hours after she fell asleep, but Christine was going to have the last word on that and silently fought on for another 24 hours until she passed today (Wednesday) at 2:00 pm. She passed so peacefully, I couldn’t have wished for more. Through all of my sorrow and grief, I feel great relief that her pain and suffering are finally over. Nothing will hurt her ever again. I will love her with all of my heart forever and I hope I made her time here as happy as it could be.

I will do the best I can to follow this post and answer any questions or concerns you might have.

Anyway, the service is being held at 2:00pm on Monday, October 22 at Saint Joan of Arc church in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Instead of flowers, we would like donations to be made in her name to Molly's Place Pet Rescue (it is where we adopted our latest pup, Scooter). We think she would really have preferred that. Even small amounts make a difference. Here is the web link on how to do that.

http://www.mollysplace.org/donate.htm

I know that Cindy started a thread for this and you can continue to send contributions to her also. It will all get to the right place and hopefully make a difference for these animals she cared so much for.

Thank you with all of my heart.

Thank you Chris, you are one hellofa gentleman!

Christine is now at peace, and the pain that many of us live with daily; she has now gained victory over.

Please keep us posted, and I think the donations in her name will work here somehow.

Chris I am just heartbroken, I feel like I know a bit about you from the few times I have spoken to Christine. She spoke so highly of you. The last time I spoke to her I think she was trying to gently let me know it was her time to go. She spoke of you and her best friend and the concern she had that she might be a burden. That was Christine, always thinking of others first. She was a rare light on the forums and she will be greatly missed. She told me she left you my email in her folder and if there is anything you need please let me know.

sincerely,
Hal

Thank you for letting us know. I am very much saddened because she is no longer with us, but take solace in the fact she is no longer suffering and is now at peace.

Chris, there is no praise that can be spoken of this woman that I'm sure you don't already know.  I had the opportunity to speak with her just last week, and I am so thankful for that because it gave me a chance to see even more clearly the brilliance in the light of this lady's spirit.  And as another forum member here has recently stated, it is a light that will never be dimmed.

Peace be with you and yours, Chris.

Chris, it's with much sadness that I saw this thread title and clicked to read it.  My most sincere thoughts are with you and your family at this time, but I know you take great solace knowing that your wife is no longer in a struggle.  Please know that everyone on this board took great strength and inspiration from Christine and she will be most missed.

Fondly,

I am really sorry for the news...

Words are really not enough to express the feeling of emptiness i have right now knowing she won't write to us again... her words were always so brilliant, so inspirational... they gave me so much strength...

There are really no words to express how i feel... nothing can express how this big loss affect us.

She will be missed a lot, like we miss the stars in a full moon night, cause she was like an star for all of us.

I am really really sorry.... my heart goes to you and your family.

Christine, que descanses en paz. Te queremos mucho.. te vamos a extrañar tanto  :'(
Christine, rest in peace. We love you a lot.. we are going to miss you so much :'(

This continued into Sunday night when she had a fever that peak at 103.9 degrees F.

I am going to try to start some type of donation fund in her name to benefit local animal shelters, since that was so special and dear to her. If any of you have any suggestions or comments on how I should go about that, I would greatly appreciate it. I was think some type of PayPal account would be easy.

Thank you with all of my heart.

My heart went into my throat when I saw the title of this thread.

Everything about her was so kind, even the tone of her writing made it so obvious that she was such a impossibly gentle person. I can't even comprehend not reading that writing anymore right now. I don't even know what to say. I'm glad she is at peace, but I selfishly wish she could have stayed with us.

Hi Chris~

I am terribly saddened by Christine's passing.  She PMed me last week and I was so happy to hear from her.  I only wish I had gotten the chance to meet her in person.  I was so glad to see the thread she started recently, and was glad to hear that she was back at home.

I was overcome when I heard of her passing today.  Chris, I hope I'm not imposing, but I'm only a little ways down the road in Frederick.  I don't know if you know how to use the PM (email) feature here but I will PM you.  I'd like to know if her services will be private or not?  I hope I'm not overstepping at this difficult time.

We all loved Christine so very much.

God Bless You and Your Family,

~Cindy

Oh Christine!

Since you're gone and can no longer hear me, you'll forgive me if I make this post about myself. Grief brings out terrible selfishness in one. Despite all my bombast and vainglory I'm not terribly good at dealing with losing the people I love, especially to this awful, awful disease.

And at the moment the pain Matty the Damned is feeling is overwhelming.

I'm sorry I missed our skype date last week. The internetz failed us. I would have loved one last chance for you, Aunty Doxie and I to have laughed and bitched and conspired but it was not to be. I knew that there would not be another one. Aunty Doxie told me how ill you sounded when he spoke to you last Thursday.

We knew. We three knew, I think.

Nevertheless I take comfort in the knowledge that your suffering has ended. No don't thank me, it's the least I can do. ;) And not before time. You of all the people I know from this place, did not deserve to suffer how you did.

And I know that you died as you lived. With compassion, and grace and dignity.

As Daddy Tim remarked to me when our beloved James died a couple of years back, your time to suffer has passed and we, your positive brothers and sisters now shoulder that burden. Go to your peace knowing that we will keep the light of your memory bright. It's a grim and terrible honour to shoulder your burden, but an honour nonetheless.

Your life and death will be remembered all around the world.

To Chris and your loved ones Matty the Damned sends his unqualified and boundless love.

Dear Chris,

Thom and I are saddened to hear of your loss of Christine.  We would have like to have met her but is seems that time did not allow.  She will always be a part of these forums and we will all remember her dearly.

When an unfortunate event such as Christine's passing occurs, it reminds me of how much each of us have to be thankful for; the advances in medical care, the doctors who care for us, and most importantly the families that stand beside us while we fight this horrid virus.

Chris, you were there for Christine and bless you for your caregiving and love.

Christine now has the wonderful advantage of being able to look upon each of us and continue to give us her support.  We are lucky to have such an Angel.

Rest in peace Christine but continue to help us who miss you to continue the fight!

Love, Ric and Thom

I just took the liberty of checking Christine's last few posts in the Forums. I think her last one (posted on October 4th) indicates the quality of the person we have lost today.

Bucko you must get better soon! I have been told from some of our AM family that you have the most wonderful, delicious, sexy voice which I hope to someday have the privilege of hearing!

I am wishing you a week of not horrible hospital food, and hopefully not a huge amount of blood cultures taken, which usually seem to be drawn between 2am-4am...

Hugs and kisses that you feel better soon!
Christine

Vale Christine.

My deepest condolences to you & your family. I am so saddened to hear. Others have said it all much better that I could express.  I always made sure to read Christine's posts, because there were always valuable and touching, and extremely relevant to anyone with this disease. I loved the photos she posted too. I would like to thank you sincerely for posting.  :'(

Oh Chris, I’m so sorry. My heart goes out to you at this very sad time. But as tragic as this news is, I’m glad you can find some comfort in knowing that dear Christine’s suffering is finally over; I know that she had been in much pain for so long. Please know that you are in my thoughts and do not hesitate to email/call me if you wish.

I’m in tears now as I write this. But I know that the sadness, loss and heartache I’m feeling right now pale in to insignificance compared to how you and Christine’s loved ones must feel.  Please accept my deepest heartfelt sympathy and condolences. Christine was an incredible woman and even though we never met face to face, through our emails, phone calls and online chats I grew to love her too.

Only a few days ago, she replied to an email of mine; she quickly caught me up with where she was at health wise, but spent the main part talking about others; asking how I was and what I was up to, how much she enjoyed chatting online with Hal and Tim and how extraordinary Jonathan is. That was the essence of Christine, always thinking of others.

Christine, my friend, I thank my lucky stars that you came into my life; it was a sheer pleasure and honour to befriend you but a tragedy that we never got to meet in person and hug. I will always carry with me the memory of our first online chat together – when you walked me through your home on your web-cam and introduced me to Chris and the pups.

I regret we didn’t get to chat one last time but I hope you knew that ever since we became friends, you were never far from my daily thoughts. You were a remarkable lady. Your amazing spirit, courage and capacity to give and love absolutely astounded me, and will forever be an inspiration to me. If angels do indeed exist you were and will continue to be a shining example of one of the finest.

Christine, sweet lady, my world is shaken on this sad day.
You will be deeply missed, as you were deeply loved. I will never forget you, my friend.

Chris-  Christine was very blessed to have you as a partner in this life.  I am truly sorry for your loss.

Though, she was keeping us updated on her health, I still could not help feel grief and sorrow.   We exchanged a few emails regarding our pets and memories of LB, NJ.

Thank you for telling us, too, that she was surrounded by the ones she loved, including the furry ones.  It means  alot.

Best Regards,

Chris,

As others have so eloquently stated, to know Christine through these boards was to know of a person with exceptional compassion, charm and beauty.  I have never come across anyone in my life who was such a gentle and caring a person, and who faced death with such humanity and grace.

Her loss is felt deeply by many of us.

You, yourself, are an inspiration to many here as well, as Christine often spoke of the support, love and joy she shared with you - not just at the end, but always.

My thoughts are with you and your family.

As I read through this post, and Christine's last post, I am reminded of common bond that we all share.  Although I am not that active in these boards I do read many people's post for inspiration.  She was just that, an inspiration.  She will be missed by all.  My thoughts are with you and your family in this most difficult time.  Chris thank you so much for sharing her last days with us, she will remain in our hearts.

I wrote this for a dear friend of mine, I am positive she would not mind if I shared it with you....

In the shadows is where I roam, full of love and content.
For you gave me strength in my time of trouble.
You lifted my spirit when it had sunken very low.

In the love that you have shown thank you for the extent.
My affection for you is no longer in the bubble.
It surrounds and engulfs you as you grow.

Part of you will always belong to me.
Part of me will always belong to you.
Apart we will never be.

As you wonder by the life's sea.
Believe in yourself and stay true.
The lock is shattered although now you have the key.

Dear Chris,

My heart goes out to you and your family.  Christine was an amazingly warm and courageous woman.  Although I haven't been active on these forums, I do read them from time to time and I have learned very much from Christine.  She was truly an inspiration.  Her lively spirit will forever shine within my heart, which I'm sure is the case for everyone she touched.

Rest in peace sweet Christine.  You will be missed tremendously by many.

Love,
Trish

Chris thank you for posting this sad news about Christine. Words are hard to find. I'm so moved that the hospital allowed you to bring in the dogs so she could say goodbye. The only relief here is that her pain is gone. You and your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Your Long Journey
God’s given us years of happiness here
Now we must part
And as the angels come and call for you
The pains of grief tug at my heart

Oh my darling
My darling
My heart breaks as you take your long journey

Oh the days will be empty
The nights so long without you my love
And when god calls for you I’m left alone
But we will meet in heaven above

Oh my darling
My darling
My heart breaks as you take your long journey

Fond memories i’ll keep of happy ways
That on earth we trod
And when i come we will walk hand in hand
As one in heaven in the family of god

Oh my darling
My darling
My heart breaks as you take your long journey

Chris,

There's nothing I can add that others haven't already said.  I've always found Christine to be a kind person with no harsh or negative words towards anybody.  I always told her that she was a great reality check for many of us.  What you both went through is what many fear... at least I do.  She was, and still is, an inspiration and will be missed by all.  Please accept our condolences and know you're both in our thoughts and hearts.

Dearest Chris and Chistine,

It may seem as if you are now separated from each other and the ones that you have given so much suppot, so much love and so much hope by telling your story.

I want you to know that 5000 miles away I have been thinking about both of you all day.
It hurts my human heart to know Christine has moved on. but spiritually I know she has now left behind her body that caused her to suffer; That same body will be missed by many to hug. But Christine's spirit is stronger present here then ever.
She will never be forgotten.
Chris do know that every year at the amg there will be a joint remembeance of Chistine and a candle will be lit every time in honour of her and of you.

It may only be a very small consolation, but that symbol will make us immortal as long as AM members will gather around the globe.

In mourning and in support of you  and your wonderful, couregaous wife Chistine.

Chris , Thanks for letting everyone know of Christine's passing.....May God Bless You & your family...I also want to Thank Matty, for coming to my site, and other's, to let us know a fellow member of the AIDS club, has fallen, know that she is as you saw her take her last breathe now at peace, smiling over you..

Chris I came here to share something that will be recited at my funeral, when it's my personal turn to go, something like me, Christine would be saying to you all if she could right now:

If Tomorrow Starts Without Me

If tomorrow starts without me,
And I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me;

I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too;

But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.

I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
The thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday,
Just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
And maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
Would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through Heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne,

He said, "This is eternity,
And all I've promised you."
Today your life on earth is past,
But here life starts anew.

I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day's the same way
There's no longing for the past.

You have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did
Some things you knew you shouldn't do.

But you have been forgiven
And now at last you're free.
So won't you come and take my hand
And share my life with me?

So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.

Sincerely,
Cochise Cooper

I want to thank you all for your kind words and support. I am amazed at how many people she has touched and helped, but not surprised. She always put others before herself. I have struggled over the years to figure out why, if there is a higher power, they would put someone through so much pain and suffering. Christine never deserved any of this. But after reading her posts and seeing how many people she has helped, I have to believe that this was her calling and she needed to carry this burden so she could understand and reach out to others. I don't know, but that is what I'm going with to help me make sense of this.

Anyway, the service is being held at 2:00pm on Monday at Saint Joan of Arc church in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Lastly, here is a picture of us from our trip to Disney which is where she always wanted to go. I'm so happy I was able to make that dream come true for her. This was her favorite picture.

Christine...James is waiting for you, go to him and look after each other, he already knows how much you are loved and how much you will be missed.

God bless you all

Although we walked the same path, I have never heard the sound of your voice but, I do know you are loved.  A very dear friend once gave me a word, she said MIZPAH.  When asked what it means, she simply said, May My Love Go with You where ever your journey may take you.  Peace be with You

Me and Chris (ManchesterUK) met for lunch in Manchester today. We decided to pay a visit to the HIV/AIDS memorial on Canal Street. Unfortunately it wasn't much to look at but we wanted to make a small gesture in memory of Christine. So we placed 3 sunflowers - one from me, one from Chris and one from Niki (englishgirl) - at the foot of the memorial. We chose sunflowers because we thought they were the most representative of Christine who brought much sunshine into many people's lives. I've added a few photos below.

Rest in peace, sweet lady.

With much love

I have struggled over the years to figure out why, if there is a higher power, they would put someone through so much pain and suffering. Christine never deserved any of this. But after reading her posts and seeing how many people she has helped, I have to believe that this was her calling and she needed to carry this burden so she could understand and reach out to others. I don't know, but that is what I'm going with to help me make sense of this.

Our journey through the flesh contains as many terrors as pleasures. Christine's pain has stopped, and for that we who loved her are most grateful even as the loss of her in our lives tears through us.

Chris-
You are handling this with a strength and dignity few others could summon at such a time. It is a testament to the love you shared.

So very sad.
NB. Any advice about HIV is given in addition to your own medical advice and not intended to replace it. You should never make clinical decisions based on what anyone says on the internet but rather check with your ID doctor first. Discussions from the internet are just that - Discussions. They may give you food for thought, but they should not direct you to do anything but fuel discussion.

Hi Chris~

I just saw the memorial on Molly's Place website.  Being such a big dog lover myself, its nice to know that Christine was so generous in what she did for the animals.

This is a great tribute to her!

today I walk in San Jose's  Silicon Valley AIDS Walk to honor Christine.  As much as I want to cry because of her passing I decided not to do this in her memory but rather to honor her life.  She inspired all of us ! She was brave, caring, full of love and a teacher.  I will pass on the lessons she taught me and others will learn who this amazing lady was.

"Funeral Blues"
By: W. H. Auden
(With a minor modification for the situation)

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message (S)He Is Dead,
Put crêpe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

(S)He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

I am new to the posts but am so touched my all of the beautiful post others have sent for Christine. She sounds like she was an angel on earth for many on this site as well as others who's life she touched. I pray we all can take some part of her strength and love and carry that forward in life to honor her memoryand carry on the good work she started in peoples hearts. Today was the first day I have been on here in month's, just needed a break, only to find out this dear lady passed away.  Back in March I was ready to kill myself, locked in what was a horrible situation with no way out.  But Christine reached out to me and gave me hope.  She offered to do my resume for me and with Chris' help, I was able to land a good job here in Florida, pull my life back together and most importantly, have hope once again.  I will never forget her -  her kindness, grace and love.

Bless you my friend.

I want to take the time to apologize to everyone here. You all were so helpful to Christine during her battle and myself when she lost that battle. A lot of you reached out to me offering help and support, checking in with me to make sure I was alright and I ignored all of you and I'm very sorry for that. You all deserve much better than that, which is why I'm here again to explain what I was going though and why.

Shortly after Christine past away, passing my final HIV test, and reading a lot of posts on here, I became very angry towards this disease. I felt as though this virus had taken everything from me and at the same time it was all that I knew, our lives had revolved around it for 14 years! I was determined that I was not going to give another second of my life to this monster! I felt as though coming back here, responding to emails and PM's, I was giving into the monster. So I stayed away, I ignored emails. Looking back, I realize that was a mistake and horrible. You are all wonderful, caring people and it was not fair of me to do that. I hope you all can understand and I am truly sorry.

Now to update what has happened since.

Things are mixed. I was finally at peace when Christine past away, knowing her pain and suffering was finally over. Honestly, it was very strange, because I wasn't upset or emotional. It was such a huge feeling of relief. Shortly after, I went out on a date with someone. I know it was soon, but I was at peace with Christine being gone and thought "why the hell not". Well, things have worked out wonderfully with this new woman. She will never replace Christine, nobody ever could and I will never forget nor let anything take away from the time I shared with Christine, but she has shown me that life does go on, you can find happiness and love someone again. Christine's friends and family were not very pleased with me dating someone so shortly after her passing and have essentially disowned me after her best friend said some very hateful and mean things towards myself and Christine's mother (who is very happy for me).

So there you go. Again, I am very sorry for the way I handled things.

Chris, all I can say is I think you and Christine managed your ordeal with the utmost dignity. I can't speak for anyone else, but you sure don't owe me an apology. As for your anger at HIV, boy I can understand your feelings. If their was one person that I can say didn't deserve it, well that would be Christine.

I got to know Christine a bit through conversations on Skype (I can't delete her name from my address book) and I would bet my bottom dollar that Christine would be happy for you. In fact I know she would.

You know Chris you were a great husband to Christine and on several occasions she told me so. To me that's all I have to know.

I'm glad you're healing and wish you all the best.

Your friend,
Hal

So nice to hear from you Chris, I can't tell you how many times I have thought of Christine over the past few months.

You certainly don't owe any of us an apology.   I am happy for you, about meeting someone.   Life is so very short....we all know you loved Christine, so now you do what you need to do for Chris to be happy,  You deserve that.

Dearest Chris

It was so nice to hear from you, I agree with Hal and Alan you don't owe anyone an apology.

Last year in SF we paid tribute to Christine at our memorial service and I think  as a group it helped us put Christine to rest and gave us all some closure, as it did you, and you were very much in our thoughts also.

I'm glad you have moved on and have found happiness, we know Christine will always be apart of you but life goes on..I wish you all the love in the world as you move on with your life.

With love and respect

Hey Chris,

I very much miss Christine and often think of her. You don't owe anyone an apology. Both you and Christine have demonstrated a dignity and grace that I wish we could find more of in this world.

I know Christine is at peace, just as I know you must continue to live. Moving on with your life doesn't mean replacing or forgetting about your life with Christine.

But, as Alan said, you deserve to be happy too and now, you must do what is good and right for you. I am very happy you have found a special someone. You deserve it.

HUGS,

Hi Chris,

Good to hear from you again - you certainly don't owe me an apology either. I thought your absence was understandable under the circumstances.

I'm happy for you too. As someone else said, life is short. I can't imagine Christine wanting you to put your life on hold. I hope the new woman in your life knows what a good man she's found. Good luck to both of you.

Hi again Chris,

In your absence, a new forum was created - In Memoriam

It would be lovely if you created a thread for Christine there.

Hugs,
Ann

Chris,

Christine will always be with us.
So will you and your new love.

I am sure Christine is looking down on the two of you and smiling; because she is at peace now and you have gotten your life back on trail after such a terrible loss.

In memory of our sister and to the new episode in your life : cheers  :)

Like someone else said... i can't also delete Christine's pm from my pm inbox... the other day i read one of them again... the last one i received... and i though i could not believe she was not with us anymore... she was a great woman and will always be. I cried a bit... good friends are always missed.

I am glad you are going on with your life, i am sure she would have wanted it that way.

Hugs and all the best.

Chris, please don't feel the need to apologize.  I'm so glad you're getting on with your life.  Christine would want it that way.  Peace and good wishes to you.

Betty

I don't know if its appropriate to post here or if I should've started a new thread in "In Memoriam,"  so please accept my apologies if I have offended any of you.

Chris, its been a few months since you've checked in here, but I can't help but remember Christine as the anniversary of her passing approaches.  I think of you often and I hope you are well.

I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you and remembering Christine.  I still have a shortcut to her last PM to me on my desktop, and I can't think of deleting it.  She PMed me on Oct. 13th 2007.

We all miss her very much.

God Bless.
