hello dear experts, this is my story.
i went to see a dentist 4 days ago, just to get a routine check up and also had this 'scalling' thing done to remove all the deposited and hardened pieces of food between your teeth.the dentist's clinic is in a private hospital, its a very clean place and the place and the equipments inside look new since its a new hospital.
After i got back home, anxiety kicked in,since there was blood when i cleaned my mouth during the scalling procedure because of the removal of the hard debris,i was worried if the tools used to drill during scalling was not sterilizied properly and the tip of the drilling thingy came into contact with my blood vessel.the previous patient was about 3 hours before me.so had the tool was used for that patient assuming the patient was HIV+,and it was left in the room without being sterilized, then 3 hours later i came in and the same drilling tool was used,is there any risk of transmission here?
please answer me,im so desperate here,im going crazy,im not at peace.
thank you in advance.

Hi Jackie , HIV is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse where the virus never leaves the confines of the two bodies.

Once outside the body, small changes in temperature, and pH and moisture levels all quickly damage the virus and render it unable to infect.

Having your teeth cleaned or scaled is NOT a risk . Please put your mind at ease because you didn't get HIV from the situation you described .

You didn't have an exposure and you do not need to test.

Well, the only way you could possibly be at any risk was if the dentist has access to a vial of fresh HIV-contaminated blood and injected it directly into your bloodstream. HIV is a very fragile virus and simply can not remain viable outside the human body, and certainly not on a metal or plastic dental instrument.

The changes in pH, temperature and the exposure to oxygen (along with whatever chemicals used in your treatment) are more than adequate to neutralize HIV. That notwithstanding, your saliva contains over a dozen identified elements which neutralize HIV and render it incapable of infection.

Of course if you suspect your doctor is intentionally trying to do you harm, that would be the second instance in the thirty-year history of the pandemic to experience this event.

Other pathogens like hepatitis can be transmitted far more easily, so if you have concerns about your dentist's level of cleanliness you should alert your local licensing body (if you feel uncomfortable confronting your dentist yourself.)

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative vaginal or anal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug abusers
Mother to child

You did not have an exposure.

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep everything in one .

Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse where the virus never leaves the confines of the two bodies.

Once outside the body, small changes in temperature, and pH and moisture levels all quickly damage the virus and render it unable to infect. For this reason, bodily fluids outside the body do not pose a risk and that means masturbation is not a risk for hiv infection.
