Hi has anyone got any info on when taf will become available in Thailand?

TAF is not currently available as a stand alone medication for HIV now anywhere, currently it is used only in single tablet ARVs-DESCOVY, GENVOYA, ODEFSEY, etc... It seems now likely that it is only better than TDF when it is used with a booster like COBI. As for coming to Thailand? Now it is looking like December for GENVOYA? Either way GILEAD has proven just how horribly they manipulate the market and patient's hope's with this TDF/TAF nonsense.

So you are saying taf is not of any benefit taking with rip viram doutl etc.how many studies have been done to reach this conclusion.? Is that 1 study?

This study is flawed. It does not prove or disprove long term benefits to renal function.it also seems to be slanting towards cost to UK NHS of taf. I shall post another question?

Well as it was approved just 2.5 years ago there is not a lot of 'long term' data. It is only approved as an ARV in 4 combination pills now and only one so far seems to be really coming to Thailand anytime soon (GENVOYA) hopefully mid to late December. This is a patent issue with TAF/TDF so it is not approved as a stand alone med for HIV. So you probably won't be seeing this in anything outside of a GILEAD drug for quite awhile.

Oh surprise news seems there is a new combo pill with TAF called SYMTUZA approved last month in USA.

So it is been used without a booster they just haven't done any research on taf with older meds.don't taf and tef work the same way only taf is lower dose. I would imagine taking a lower dose of any meds providing it works can only be a good thing?

Yes lower dose and slightly different action. But again it is not being used as a stand alone ARV so not really an option outside of the combo pills. We are still waiting for GENVOYA in Thailand.

TAF can be found in India although the online suppliers all feel a bit sketchy.

Stand alone TAF is sold in India for treatment of HepB. One name of the medication there is HepBest. It is also used in combination with other arvs to treat HIV.

Again stand alone TAF would be used off label for HIV and do you really want to risk buying your drugs online from India? If everyone is so worried about TAF/TDF why not just go on JULUCA? The best of the best right now, even though the DTG dosage still seems to be overkill.

Everything isn't that simple.if someone wants to buy drugs from India. who are we to judge. We don't all have the luxury off what meds we can have.and some of us must pay for meds etc. If only one drug combo would suit all. In a perfect world.

No one is suggesting it be the only drug in the combo.
One can source TAF from India, and get the other nrti/nnrti/ or PI locally here in thailand.
No Taf combinations are currently availiable in Thailand.

Juluca is not abailiable in Thailand.
Edurant sourced locally is availiable.
Tivicay sourced locally is $300 per month. Or About $55 from India.
Taf is not availiable locally.
Sourced in India it is about $130 for a 3 month supply.
Tafero EM sourced in India is about $50 per month.
Juluca is not an option for someone also infected by HBV.
Did I say I planned to buy online. A round trip air ticket costs about $400 so there are other options.
And BTY where do you think the world buys most HIV drugs from? (Spoiler alert: INDIA and CHINA).
My Recovir EM is sourced in India.

Living in Thailand and being taking Edurant + Recovir, me too I’ve been thinking about the “DIY” version of Juluca, which apparently seems to be a “light” art combination (only 2 drugs). What had made me think is the price of Tivicay here in Los, as Expat says it’s expensive.
Never thought before to India alternative though... this makes me wonder... would it be really an option buying Tivicay there or online? As I said, I’d never given a thought but...

I did fly to India for doultgravir I bought from a recommended source. I'm now on viramune as I had completely lost my appetite on doultgravir and my Dr took me off it.

Has anyone seen a replacement website link showing what drugs Red Cross has available and pricing in Bangkok?... Adamslove.com used to have a link on thier site with a good list but my understanding is they are no longer affiliated with the Red Cross...

You clearly can not read and do not know what you are talking about. It is not approved as a stand alone medication for HIV treatment. It is only approved as a standalone medication for hepatitis. I have said this several times. So if you do this you will be using it in the way we call off-label which has not been studied. The one pill formulations that are available now have been studied and known to be safe. You clearly have not done your research. The benefits of TAF are still not clear and new studies have shown it might increase cholesterol levels significantly. Obtaining generics overseas always poses risks and a continued reliable supply becomes problematic. What doctor is going to give you this prescription? Oh yes just get it in the corner drugstore in a foreign country.

As for generic pharmacies and sourcing drugs online, I don't have personal experience with them. I've heard good things, I've heard bad things. :-\
I do know that without online pharmacies things like PrEP and some treatments in the UK & IRL simply would not have progressed and the Terrence Higgins Trust seems to trust a few of them at least for the PrEP side of the house although I know some of the pharmacies also claim to deliver TAFERO EM https://www.iwantprepnow.co.uk/buy-prep-now/
I would however really urge you talk to your doctor first before switching again. You have been through a few combinations and all Ill say is think carefully before switching again. As for TAF, well currently it is not approved as stand-alone, but as we all know "off label" usage of drugs, happens. I'm certainly not recommending it, all i am doing is acknowledging that in the real world it happens.
Work with your doctor, show them the information you find and see what they think.
That's my two cents and whatever you decide to do I wish you the best.

Reason I locked and now unlocked the thread was a mod report and besides that emails sent to me regarding this thread.
Here are the options you have, Ignore each-other or debate each-other however whatever you do remain courteous and polite! There is no need for flame-baiting and personal attacks. There is plenty of that online already without us doing that here, so lets have a slightly better standard and keep things civil.
Ill also add that as forum members we might not always agree with what someone posts, however repeat posting our own point of view simply does not add to the conversation or validate it more.

My question was when will taf become available in Thailand . my Dr just mentioned taf as he was worried about my kidney function.. I did make one huge misjudgment in switching to dtg without my drs advice. which I did in desperation and because of the side effects of atripla. And the fear I had of viramune. My HIV Dr is aware of this and talked me through the advantage of viramune and the risks. If a medicine that I needed and was affordable in India would I fly there again.hell yes but only if my Dr advised it. I am still ud. I didn't mean to start WW3 lol

Confused? Your profile says you just statred Neviraprine and Lamivudine? And he wants to add a third medication or you want to switch to something new completely? As for TAF try at the end of December for GENVOYA there might be more drugs in the future but hard to predict. There seems to be a confusion as to what a stand alone drug is. TAF presently as a single pill/stand alone is now prescribed for hepatitis and is used as an HIV medication only in combination pills like GENVOYA. Why? Several reasons...because it needs to be studied when taken as a single pill and would have to be studied in each possible combination of meds which would be time consuming and expensive also there are very complicated patent issues with GILEAD/TAF. PS-would be very interested to hear of your problems with DTG?

After 5 weeks on dtg I could not eat I basically stopped eating I had zero appetite and lost 4kg .stopped dtg and 2" days .later I had my appetite back. Taf was an option but never as stand alone. but as I have cholesterol problem taf is off the agenda. I have not missed one days pills since the start of treatment. I have just been unlucky with side effects. Genvoya price is unaffordable. And generic been made available here looks a long way off.

Well Santa is not bringing GENVOYA to Bangkok this month. Advised to try again at the end of next month. Seems to be taking forever...
