doing fellatio, precum, risk?(new studies?)
« on: February 28, 2011, 02:31:40 pm »
I always was knew that saliva has over a dozen enzymes blocking HIV, so chances contracting HIV via oral sex was zero. However, recently I have been reading some information on AIDs, and news assuring that although not so high as other sexual practices, oral sex posses a significant risk, existing, supposedly, people having contracted HIV through this route.  Do you know if there is any actualized researching proving this? Is true that there are persons having contracted HIV via oral? IT is advisable to use a condom for oral or it is an exagerated practice?

Thank you

Oral sex does not transmit HIV.

From time to time there are claims of transmission via giving oral. They never seem to hold up under careful scrutiny.

Of course anytime you have sex with anything other than your own hand there is a potential risk. Longterm ongoing studies of sero-discordant couples, both gay and straight, who had lots of mutual unprotected oral and only protected vaginal and anal intercourse have resulted in not one sero-negative partner having become infected.

Good sense dictates that if for instance you have a large and openly bleeding wound in your mouth that you not give oral sex. But then under those circumstances it's unlikely you would be doing that, right?

You have to decide what you are comfortable with sexually. So if you are going to be very anxious everytime you give oral sex, then use condoms or don't do it. The risk is miniscule. If it were otherwise we would have known so long before today since it is one of the most common of sexual activities.

an,

There have been long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

You have in the past posted in the Research forum. If you are not hiv positive, this forum is the only place you should be posting. Do not post in forums meant only for hiv positive people again. Thank you for your cooperation.

It's not saying that at all. Everyone has over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

What it does say is that some people who have been orally exposed to hiv develop an extra component - a "salivary IgA1-mediated HIV-neutralizing response".

By the way, just out of curiosity, it is known the number of persons (or couples)involved in the study or studied carried out in this way? Thanks

While I do not remember the exact numbers, I do know there were three separate studies involving hundreds of couples and the longest one went on for ten years.

You know, the bottom line here is that if you cannot bring yourself to believe what we're telling you, go test and collect your negative result.

hello

I have been told there are available accurate tests via online shopping. I think it would be a good tool before casual sex relationships. Could you give me information? thanks

First of all I have merged your threads here. In the future please follow our rule and keep all of your entries in this section in this same thread.

Testing before a casual sexual relationship is not a reliable means of determining HIV status. For an accurate negative result the test has got to be taken at 13 weeks past the most recent possible risk. You could have a partner test negative with you and still not be certain how recently they'd been unsafely sexually active.

What needs to happen to have sex the safer way is the insertive partner must always wear a condom during vaginal and anal intercourse. That's the safer way. No exceptions and no short cuts.

an,

In addition to why Andy told you that home testing with a trick isn't a reliable way to go about things (downright dangerous, in fact), it's just not a good idea in general. I mean, how you YOU like to test positive at some trick's house you just hooked up with over the internet or at your local watering hole? Potentially unpleasant, potentially dangerous. Bad idea all round.

And besides, the ONLY approved home test kit is the Home Access. You have to send out for the results and they take a week or so to come back. So much for immediate results. It is possible to find rapid tests over the internet, but they are prone to false positives. They're useless, and therefore not approved tests.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE!!!!

are there studies dealing with HIV infection rates between HOMO couples?
« Reply #12 on: April 30, 2011, 02:25:09 pm »
I have read about studies focused on heterosexual serodiscordant couples, but it seems according to recent reportts that seroconversion between homosexual serodiscordant couples are much higher. Are there studies focused only onl gay couples?

Thank you

I've merged your threads here. In the future please follow our rule and keep your entries in this same thread.

In this forum we are not interested in addressing abstract questions such as you have presented. You'll have to do your research elsewhere.

Here we focus on specific incidents which members present and evaluate the level of risk or not which they have.

The problem is that, it seems(according to recent reports I have read)that zero risk regarding to oral sex is ONLY lnked to heterosexual sex, but within homosexual couples does exists much higher rates of transmission. And that point is very important regarding people´s health. Thanks

The longterm studies of sero-discordant couples included both gay and straight couples. The end result was that after always using condoms for vaginal/anal intercourse and no protection for mutual oral, none of the sero-negative partners became infected.

For a variety of reasons including faulty memories and reluctance to report sexual activities accurately among other cause, reports of transmision via oral just never seem to hold up under careful scrutiny.

doing fellatio, precum, risk?(new studies?)
« Reply #16 on: June 16, 2012, 12:54:28 pm »
hello. Since I am reading this website I considered that no rinsk is linked with doing oral sex to a man without condom being you the receptive partner.

However I have been talking with a  friend, whose doctor has told him that some infections occur that way and some recent studies prove it.

Do you know(any of the readers)if this view has changed someway and although small some infections occur when precum enters your mouth and if some recent studies or at least trustworthy testimonies point out that? thank you
