Mouth and throat hemorrhaging
« on: March 28, 2017, 11:14:00 am »

  Howdy Folks ,

I am a very long term survivor , I have gone through stages
of kidney failure , Drug change fixed that .   I have had severe liver issues ,
I turned yellow , made for pretty skin with a tan  ;)

I suffered atrophied muscles , that nearly did me in , another med change , I believe that was a statin   <sp>   I stopped and a couple years have passed and I am like Mighty Mouse now .

OK !   Here is my problem !!!!

For about a month maybe longer ?   I have been having my mouth roof and throat just start bleeding . Last night i spit out 1/4 cup of blood , Bob was in a panic , wanted me to go to the emergency room , almost three hours away in saint Louis VA . I said no I called and made an appointment for 2:00 PM O'Clock
3/29  .   Has anyone experienced this .

Last night my mouth filled up , felt like when you are about to puke , tasted salty , I went in the bathroom and a LOT of blood flowed !

I am afraid this could be a very bad sign , I have not seen a REAL doctor in 13 years , I will DEMAND to have an Ear ,nose ,throat doctor look at my throat !

any advice or comments welcome .

                                                Thank you all ,

                                                                    Carl

Hey Wade , if this is in the wrong place please move , thanks  :)

Hi weasel

No idea what could be causing your problem but it sounds nasty and I'm pleased you have an appointment to get it looked at. Having a quick google, it looks like it could be due to a range of different things - most relatively benign/mundane, so hopefully they will diagnose and treat it quickly.

Carl --

I have no idea what may be going on -- but I am EXTREMELY happy to hear you are seeing a doctor today.  I know it's a long drive, but you really should see a doctor regularly -- men of our age need to stay on top of things!!!

You will be in my thoughts today -- hope they can sort it out quickly.  Keep us posted!!

Hugs,
Mike

thinks that is a waste of her time and energy  :o

Hope to get results next week of face scan .

the guidelines are if someone is virally suppressed to start reducing the amount of visits to twice a year. If a person is UD and has <500 cd4s for two yrs, visits can be reduced to once a year.

HRSA HAB core 3 measurement is Medical Visit Frequently. This quality health care measure is for a patient to have one medical visit every 6 months, at least 60 days apart, over a 24 month period. Or basically 1 visit every 6 months.

of course that all applies to an Infectious Disease/HIV doctor though. You should be seeing a primary physician as often as needed.  ;)

did the bleeding stop? was there any idea as to where this blood was coming from?
boy that sounds terrible and I sure hope you can get this problem fixed up.

Carl,

Sorry to ready about your situation.

Hope with the recent scan, your doctors get to the root of the problem.

Regarding the frequency of Doctor visits, I have been UD and above 500 CD4 for over 15 years but I still see my Specialist every 6 months and Primary Doctor once a year.

Take care,

OT

Hi , Sorry for the lack of response  .   My tests came back inconclusive .

I guess that is a good thing  .   No longer do I take two Aspirins a day .

The doctors said there could be four reasons of why I was bleeding , but unless

it starts up again , it's a wait and see game .

I still have a sinus infection after all this time   :o

see my ID doctor on the 11th .

Someone commented on me seeing my primary care doctor , Saint Louis VA does

not allow me a primary care doctor .    It is a poor system , IMHO

Leatherman mentioned I only need to be seen once a year , wrong !   I would

loose my HSI   ( Ryan White )   Something I can not afford to do .

GOOD NEWS !    I got new upper choppers , I lost a front tooth  ???

That is all , thanks for caring  :)

Hey Carl,

I don't understand this statement?  I just started using the VA system last year (didn't realize that I qualified - thought income would bar me, but my war-time service was enough!) and they insisted that I get a Primary Care doc.  He is the one who coordinates all my care.  Though, honestly, I am not using the VA much, as I still have private insurance from my job.  I am looking at the VA as my fallback if something happens to my job and as a bridge to Medicare, once I retire, so I am seeing my Primary, at least yearly for now.  He also pushed me to see an Audiologist and now I have two of the best hearing aids out there -- for free.
Anyway -- this isn't about me, it's just using my experience to call out that what you've been told seems wrong.  You may want to contact the VA Patient advocate at your facility.  Read about it here:  https://www.va.gov/health/patientadvocate/.

oops. my bad. I totally screwed up that cd4 test part; but had the 2 visits a year correct in the other parts of that post.

actually if you have >=500 cd4s for 2 years, you can totally drop the cd4 test and only do a VL once a year.
the HRSA/HAB Medical Visit Frequency measure is one visit every 6 months, with at least 60 days between. You can see a doctor more frequently but twice a year is the recommendation

that's per Ryan White and the CDC
