Where can I donate unused (unopened) meds?
« on: October 04, 2017, 05:15:35 pm »
I was on Triumeq for a while before switching to Tivicay + Descovy and, because of the way insurance lets you refill a few days early, I ended up a month ahead.  Now I have an unopened bottle of Triumeq that is just sitting here with six months left before expiration.

Anybody know off the top of their head what options are in USA for donating unopened unused HIV meds?

My husband also has unopened Truvada as PrEP that we never got around to using because we decided to keep things monogamous recently and I'm UD.

Just feel bad having all these life-saving, HIV-preventing medicines sitting around that I'm not using, but someone else could be, and perhaps can't afford.

If I remember correctly there's a foundation in New York that will accept them.  You'll have to google. I can't remember off the top of my head.

Thanks for the lead! I think I found it: Aid for AIDS: https://aidforaids.org/hiv-recycling-program/

They accept drop-offs in the NYC area, and also by mail if outside of NYC.  Pill bottles DO NOT HAVE TO BE SEALED.  That surprised me (pleasantly). "AID FOR AIDS takes all unexpired antiretroviral and HIV prophylaxis medications in their original containers.  AFA accepts sealed containers of liquid and powder medications, and both sealed and unsealed containers of pills."

Mail or ground delivery to:

I believe it must be accompanied by this donor card: https://aidforaids.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Donorcard-2013.pdf
