Private insurance and HIV
« on: November 01, 2016, 06:38:29 pm »
Hi everyone,

Greetings from Mexico. Going into my tenth month since diagnosis and life is good.
Back on track with work and everyday activities. I cannot complain. UD now and slowly letting HIV go to the background.

I bought private insurance two years ago and continue to pay my premiums. They do not cover my HIV treatment since it was only a little over a year after I got insured that I was diagnosed. My policy clearly states a four year window for HIV treatment coverage. Fortunately I have access through public institutions and have had excellent medical attention.

I plan to keep the coverage for whatever contingency might happen (an accident, broken bone, etc), but I do wonder and really don't have a clear idea of how my diagnosis might limit my coverage. My insurer does not know my condition yet. If I am one of the unfortunates that get cancer, will my insurance pay for my treatment? Any thoughts?

Stay strong!
