Veterans day ! hats off please !
« on: November 11, 2008, 03:43:23 pm »
if someone posted this I missed it  :-[

Today  is a wonderful day to thank any and all  Veterans !

When  I meditate this afternoon I will be laying on the grass

of a National Cemetery  , NEXT to my brothers grave  :'(

He served more than 20  years , Air Force , and passed away  10 years ago .

It seems like yesterday He was  just 16 .

My prayers go out to all that have lost a loved one , and those  that

lost a loved one in war .

                                                         Bless them all ,

                                                                  Karl

I'm an American who sometimes finds overt patriotism to be a bit overboard but I know I speak for many when I say thanks to all our men and women in the armed forces, including all those who gave their life and limb in sacrifice.

Thank you Karl,

Signal Corps, Vietnam Era vet here.  Service from 1967 to 1970, and most of it in Germany, and lest any of you think it was a cake walk, please remember Checkoslovakia during the late sixties.  We spent many a day and night on red alert, which meant be able to jump from a dead sleep and be on the move in five minutes.  Bleah!!!!!!!!!!!

Fortunately I never had to raise a rifle and point it at anyone, besides a paper target.  Whew!

Hey Tim,

Sounds like you were in the same area as I was. I was stationed In Amberg, not to far from the Czech border.

Oh the many times driving to the OP towers. Winters were cold !! :) Beautiful country though !

Did you remember Gravenvier,(Grafenwohr) or Hohenfels ?  ;)

EDITED: Forgot to mention "Vilseck" also

JRE, Grafenworh, Hoenfels??????????????   I am so sorry for you.  I spent a week in Grafenworh, doing war games during the Chech problems, and was in charge of setting up and coordinating the translation booths for the NATO Generals who were invited to the show.  All of this of course was set up in a MUDDY farm field with a foot of snow on the ground and colder than a wiches brass tit.  That was the first time I ever saw a Cobra Helecopter, and they buzzed the bleachers with all the officers from about 50 feet.  What a mess.  YES I do remember that like it was yesterday.  Meanwhile Tito was stirring the pot across the border.

Jody, Gomer you say?  Hmmmm, and I can also carry a tune or two, but I wouldn't compare my voice to his because he sang a few octaves higher than I could.

Denb, I woudn't have refused any of your offerings at all.  I was one very horny young man back in those days.  Shit, I just won't go there on this forum, but I did have a wonderfully fulFILLING time in my signal platoon, and never was discriminated against during my two years in Germany.  On the contrary, I was sought out by many for my FRENDLY demeanor under ALL circumstances.  I had a BALL, or several........   :)
