Hiv test at 7 weeks
« on: October 24, 2011, 07:48:04 am »
I gave my blood for HIV DUO testing on 17th oct. This is 7 weeks after potential exposure.

The lab tested only for Antibodies on 17th oct and the result was Negative.

I asked them to re-do the test as the lab didn't test for Antigen.

So, on 20th Oct, the lab re-ran the test on my stored blood sample and the result was Negative.

Is the DUO test on stored blood sample still reliable? (as the test was performed on stored blood sample as opposed to freshly drawn blood)

I don't see any reason to doubt the lab would have been storing the blood under proper conditions.

Three months is the time for testing for an all clear for HIV. However, all but the smallest number of those who are going to seroconvert will do so within 4-6 weeks after an exposure. So a negatie result at 7 weeks is a very strong indication you are likely to continue to test negative at 3 months.

kiwi,

Unless you had unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse or shared drug injecting equipment, then you were not at risk for hiv infection.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

I know that a HIV test at 7 weeks is very reassuring and only a 3 month test is conclusive but I would like to know if anyone (living with HIV) on this forum have seen/experienced/heard a negative 6 weeks test turn positive at 12 weeks?

Please don't ignore the question. Your answers will help settle down my nerves.

Kiwi,

I removed the post you left in the Living forum and merged it with your thread here. If you bothered to read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

With the exception of the “Am I Infected?” and “Off Topic” Forums, the AIDSmeds.com Forums are intended for people who have been diagnosed with HIV (or their loved ones/caregivers).  If you are questioning or unaware of your HIV status, please refrain from posting messages or questions in the Forums intended for HIV-positive people.

Please consider yourself warned!

In over ten years of posting in these forums, I have NEVER seen a six week (or more) negative end up being positive at three months. Chill out already - and abide by our rules, thank you.

Kiwi,

I see you still have not read the Welcome Thread because you've been PMing positive members and you're not permitted to do that. If you had actually bothered to read it, you would have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

Do NOT use Private Messages to question other members about any transmission, testing or symptom issues. These issues must be discussed in the public forum. Misuse of the PM function in this manner will result in your PM privileges being removed without warning.

I have removed your PM privilege. Break one more rule here and you'll be permanently banned.

Please consider yourself warned for the last time!

And by the way, according to the PM you sent...

The reason I ask is I had a recent exposure with a sex worker, though the sex was protected I have been worrying sick if contracted hiv.

Which means you never had a risk in the first place. You do not need further testing. You do not have hiv.

Kiwi,

I just removed the message you left in someone else's thread. I warned you only two days ago that if you broke one more rule here, you would be banned.

As you obviously either cannot follow rules or just simply do not respect this website enough to follow them, I'm banning you.
