Unprotected oral
« on: April 23, 2012, 06:51:29 am »
Dear sir - madam,

I visited a sex worker and had oral sex performed on me, most of the time was with condom but some was unprotected. I noticed a couple of days after that I had a scratch, which had formed a scab on the base of my penis, I am certain this must have come from the tooth of sex worker, I am at risk from HIV infection?..

Lancaster,

Getting a blowjob - with or without a condom - is absolutely NOT a risk for hiv infection and it doesn't matter if you got scraped by a tooth. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

Not one single person has ever been infected while getting a blowjob and you are certainly NOT going to be the first.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST SPECIFICALLY OVER A BLOWJOB, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks Ann,

I really appreciate your time, so just I understand my risk was nil and there is no need to test, I have not had any other exposures.

I just freaked as my wife and I are trying for a baby, I really don't want to put her at risk due to my stupidity.

Thanks x

You don't need anymore information. Ann has fully and accurately told you that you were not at risk for HIV. No risk. Period. End of story.

What you're really talking about without saying it is the anxiety you're experiencing because you strayed. There's nothing we can do about that. You did what did and that's history now if you let it be.

You can't give your wife a virus you don't have. And you don't have HIV. Really.

Get on with your life.

You really don't need to test. You don't get HIV from getting a blowjob.

Lancaster,

Andy hit the nail on the head. You let someone who isn't your wife suck your dick and now you're wracked with guilt. Knock it off. Hiv isn't a punishment for straying men - it's just a virus that is transmitted in very specific ways. Getting your dick sucked isn't one of the ways that hiv can be transmitted, so chill out.

Good luck with the baby-making and stop thinking you're going to give your wife a virus you didn't get through being blown.
