I am 37 gay guy and had sex 15 days ago. We used a condom, but i did slide my cock into his ass a few inch for a second and when he came at the end I licked a drop of his cum. Silly I know and have been very angry and anxious about doing this.
Ten days after this I had diarrhea, then a few days later felt nauseous and could not sleep. The next day I also had a slightly sore throat (but no cough or cold). I have not had a high temp or fever. But at night i have had problems sleeping and my sore throat now looks a bit red around my neck.
I am not sure if its just my anxiety levels going off the scales that have caused feeling sick. I am in contact with the guy I had sex with, he says he is negative and tested last year. I am going to a sexual health clinic tomorrow. If the symptons I am experiencing the last 6 days are from HIV, would a combo P24 antibody and antigen test work after 16 days following a possible exposure ?
I did ask the guy if he would come with me and get a new hiv text to put my mind at rest. But I will go test first and see what happens. I am just worried why do i have a sore throat and red neck and i have felt a bit weak the last few days. Any advice you can offer me is much appreciated, as I am really scared.

As long as you had a condom on when you slid your cock into his ass, you were not at risk for hiv infection. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection.
Licking cum off his dick is also not a risk for hiv infection.
The earliest you should test for a real risk (and it's not clear whether you were wearing a condom or not when your cock was inside him) is at six weeks.
The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative result must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

Hi Ann,
I slid my cock into his ass without a condom, maybe for 1 sec or two. Then we used condoms. The guy says he tested neg last year and that he is fine and I am being paranoid (which I hope is true), but I do have the symptons explained below.
My main worries is why do I have a sore throat (no cough or cold) and a red rash around my neck on my chest. I think this could be a sweat rash, well thats what I am hoping. I am freaking out and not able to sleep well and have lost my appetite. Also feeling nauseous. I hope its just stress related.
I have a test booked today, in four hours time. I am hoping they can do a p24 antobody + antigen test. As I heard this can detect earlier. Anyway I am just very very scared. I moved to Hong Kong to start a new job and a new life and this was not part of the plan. I just pray I will be ok.
I will update you all later today once I get my results. Please say a prayer for me. Thanks.

P-24 tests are not standalone tests and you will still need an antibody test. A conclusive test can be obtain 3 months post exposure.

I read online that the 4th Gen P24 duo test cuts the waiting time to either 10 or 16 days. I just wanted to check this as I just had the test and am waiting for my results. Two doctors I checked with in HK said the window period was now about 2 weeks for this test.

The P24 test can detect HIV infection before the HIV antibody test can. Therefore, P24 antigen testing is used in diagnosing HIV early in the course of infection. The addition of the P24 antigen test further reduced the window period to about 14 days. In October 2005 NAT testing was introduced as a routine test on every donation.

The reason I am looking to check this I had unsafe sex 16.5 days ago and had some symptons for the last week so I got tested today, waiting for my results now.

The information I gave you yesterday still stands, and as most GUM clinics use a test that includes p24 testing, I took this into account.
While a positive p24 test result might tell you something, a negative one will not. The p24 antigen is only present in the first couple weeks and disappears when antibodies start to be created. This can cause a window period where the p24 has already disappeared before enough antibodies have been created to produce a positive (ie reactive) result on the antibody portion of the test. If you had actually been infected, this window may create a false negative result.
Your chances, as being the insertive partner, are actually rather slim that you'd be infected from this one-time, brief incident. However you have had a risk and you do need to test. You need to test at the APPROPRIATE time and not start yourself on a downward spiral of testing every other week over this lower end of the scale risk.
I don't care how many negative results you get, the only conclusive negative result is one at three months, p24 antigen test or no p24 antigen test.

Well I got the P24 duo test and it came back negative at 16 days since my incident. So I am hoping my flu like symptons the last 6 days are just flu. But I will take your advice and test again after three months. But thanks for the advice, it is much appreciated.
