Hello,
I am a male who recently had unprotected vaginal intercourse with a Japanese friend about 3 weeks ago. I have already scheduled to get tested in a few weeks time but in the meantime, I was keen to get some feedback on my situation.
The thing that concerns me the most is that after we were finished, we noticed blood on the sheets from her. Now, I am not sure whether my partner is positive or not, and I understand that HIV prevalence in Japan is comparatively low, but my assessment on the circumstances are not too positive. I don't think I had/have any cuts or lesions on my penis but the fact that she was bleeding certainly doesn't give me comfort.
Of course I will not find out until I get tested, but I assume her bleeding would increase any possibility of transmission if in fact she were to be positive?
Never again will I put myself through this....

Transmission of HIV from a woman to a man is much more difficult to accomplish than the other way around. And we're talking about a single incident. So the presence of blood notwithstanding, the odds are in your favor that you will test negative.
You can test initially at 6 weeks after the incident. If you get a negative result at that point, the likelihood is that you will continue to test negative for a conclusive result at 3 months.
In the future keep in mind you can have intercourse with anyone you want to regardless of their HIV status. Just always do it the safer way which means wearing a condom everytime for vaginal or anal intercourse. No exceptions.
