AMG07 Location Final Vote...Russian River or San Francisco
« on: January 23, 2007, 06:38:37 pm »
Hi Everyone,

Now that we have a better understanding of what these two locations have to offer our group, I'd like everyone to cast their vote.

Will it be...

     A.  Russian River
     B.  San Francisco

In an effort to protect our current hotel rate proposals which are time sensitive, voting will continue through January 30th.

My vote is for San Francisco.

The logistics are much easier, and there are more possibilities to see and do things without having a car. Additional cost of accommodations is mitigated by not having to rent cars or travel up to the Russian River. Also easier to share rooms, due to the availability of rooms with two beds in San Francisco.

Ditto, plus I've always wanted to go to SF!

dennis, perhaps a good idea would be to PM everyone who expressed interest in going to this just a reminder that a locale change is being considered.  A little extra work as you can only pm i think 5 people at a time, but it should be sent as a reminder to recast a vote.

Dennis

Once again let me thank you for your efforts in providing us with the information we need to make informed choices.

I originally voted for Russian River.

Tonight I'm voting that the gathering should be held in San Francisco.

I have two reasons for this:

1.  The challenge of the nonrefundable 50% deposit required by the property in the Russian River.  Too many of us seem to be uncomfortable with this. It shuts the Grants Committee out of the possibility of making any reservations in the next 4 weeks, I fear it also presents a commitment from members that is simply unacceptable.  Whether they are able to currently make that reservation and are worried about the financial consequence or whether they feel shut out from the process because they can't make the commitment in the next 4 weeks, the results is the same.

2.  Once we reopened the possibility of the gathering in San Francisco, it seems we have also regained a new momentum and a new attention from members who to this point have not participated.

AMG isn't about the where/when/what.  AMG is about US.  It's about US coming together for a few days and celebrating our commonality, our shared burden, our commitment to provide compassion and support to one another in the context of a casual social setting.

I believe we have begun to move along the road to once again achieve that goal.

Hi Dennis

After much reading and summing up the pro's and con's of our original vote for Russian River I too would cast my vote for SF..for pretty much the same reasons that Rocky gives and also Allan.

Just in case you missed it.

San Fransisco.

If it is good enough for Rocky...it is good enough for me!  San Francisco.

I am really constrained as others are by the September dates.  I am not able to attend if we are using the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th weekends in September.  I have prior commitments that I cannot break.  I do want to attend, so I will eager to see what dates we settle on... my hats off to the planners who have really been working hard on this.

So who am I to argue?

San Francisco. The logistics will be simple, SF is a fun place to visit and there is sooo much to see and do and public transport is great there.

I know the hotels are a bit pricey, but I, for one, am not adverse to having a roomie. Matter of fact, last year it was a delight because I got to know Shane and Bailey much better than I might have otherwise.

(No, not that well! Get your minds out of the gutter!)

Although I originally voted for the RR as my first choice, I now vote for SF as my # 1 choice. I'm doing this for the logisitics stand point and the fact they we may find it easier to book rooms without the problems at the RR. I am mindful however that hotel prices in the city are relatively high. Tradeoffs I suppose.

The city is great fun with lots of choice of activities for all tastes and side trips are still on for those folks that want (and can afford) to partake.

Cheers

San Francisco (orig. vote) RR sounds wonderful. Aside from the hotel refund policy, the logistics of
getting over 40 people there from the airports seems quite daunting. Perhaps a day trip.

SF for me too.
Her finely-touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.
