To those who use Norvir
« on: April 21, 2008, 12:39:34 pm »
Does anyone take 2 pills instead of one here?

I was taking one norvir 1 day, then the doctor upped it to 2 because in 8 yrs I have had my VL undetectable, but since they put me on one norvir, my t cells went up from 161 to
338, the highest its been in years, but my VL showed a number of 402, so they upped my norvir to 2 pills a day...

I hope this works..........but damn..do I got the runs from taking 2 instead of one..
I go back in 3 weeks and hope this is resolved, if not its back to the drawing board.

Did this happen to anyone else.... ???

I take 1 norvir (100mg) with each dose of Prezista, so yeah that's 2/day -- is that what you're asking?

If you have the runs then why aren't you taking imodium (or prescription stregth loperamide) with each dose?  I do.

I take 2 novir and 2 lexiva, plus one truvada..I called my doctor today and she said to stop taking 2 novir and just take one..

Btw, I did take meds for the runs...
I feel better that they are bringing me back to my orginal dose..
The reason they upped it is because, My VL was 408
and I was always undectable for yrs..
But it did bring up my tcells from 161 to 338...
My doctor was concerned that my VL was showing up so she put me on
another novir.....NOT A GOOD IDEA.. >:(

I had HIV for the last 22 yrs. I'm 51 yrs old, in 1991 I started taking meds, and I'm still on them, in 1998 I came down with FULL-BLOWN-AIDS, had 3 IO's PCP, and a few other problems, also, back then, I had 90 to 100 T-cells, and my VL-load was OFF-THE-CHARTS, so I went on SSDI....................I don't know why I'm still alive, but I'am.....and after 10 yrs of being disabled, I got better, now I'm at 450 to 500 T-cells, and NO VL-Load, and seem to be doing well, at least for now.........

I take 4 Norvir a day 2 in the AM and 2 at the PM, also take 4 Aptivus a day 2 in the AM and 2 at night......here the rest of what I'm on:
Truvada 1 a day
Isentress 1 a day

 Now for the NON-HIV Meds:

Accupril 1 a day for High Blood pressure caused by the HIV meds
Tricor 1 a day for High Colesterol caused by the HIV Meds
Omega-3-fatty-acids for high Colesterol caused by the HIV Meds 2grams a day 1 in the AM and 1 in the PM
Lopermide for loose stools caused by all of the HIV-Meds
Bactrum DS 1 a day for them nasty little infections, like Trush, fever Blisters and swollen glands (limph nodes) under my jaw-bone, and for urinary-trac-infections

So 1 Novir a day depends on what other meds your on, and what your doctor recomends, but in my case, I take 4 a day............yeah I know I take a lot of Meds, and my stomach is always upset 24/7  but, I eat a lotta tums, and they seems to work well....... my doctor told me that I can take as many tums as I want, and that they won't hurt me........so, I would consider  myself VERY LUCKY, If I only took 1 novir a day, you should be glad ,you only take one a day.................

I take 1 Norvir a day along with one Truvada and 1 Reytaz.
I do well on a once a day regimen. I've had trouble adhering to anything other.
I wouldn't want to take any more Norvir. I cant stand taking the one I do take. LOL

I hope it works out for you.

This is empirical (read speculative) prescribing to try and inrease the drug level of your main PI. Which PI are you on?

Okay

The 200mg Norvir is the recommended dose for Lexiva in treatment-experience people, ie people who have taken a combo beforehand. If Lexiva was part of your first combo this probably doesn't mean you.

On the not getting "undetectable"  (less than 50 copies) viral load any more...hmmm....I would ask for a retest. (How long) were you undetectable for before? It would be quite odd if you were undetectable on a 100mg Norvir boost for Lexiva but became detectable on 200mg...Did the jump in viral load happen before or after adding the extra bit of Norvir?

It's probably a blip .. the +1 Norvir seems very random.

Good luck  :)

My daily regimen is two Lexiva, two Norvir and two Combivir.

I don't have too much trouble with the hershey squirts with this combo.

Hey Denb, have you thought of replacing the tums with protonix. It really helped me with the stomach acid issues.

HUGS,

Mark

I wish it was that EASY, but it's not, this is Salvage Therapy, I have a lotta Resistance to most of the HIV drugs so, finding the correct combo for me is hit or miss, besides I 'm doing quite well on this combo, it's different for everyone, not one of us is the same, (what works for you may not work for me are anybody else) we all react differently to the many many HIV combo Meds  :) at the very least all we can do is hope for the best........... ;)

I take 2 x 100mg of Norvir daily and I can't say that it's given me much to complain about.  In fact, my current combo is the most void of side effects of any combo I've taken in 15 years.

No ,I also take RANITDINE (it's ZANTAC 150) twice a day, seems to work, but I still get the hershey squirts tho, I think my BIG problem is the Norvir ( I take 4 a day) but, untill they come out with a NEW PI, not many options for me right now............Here's my current MEDS:

APTIVUS 2 twice a day= 4
NORVIR  2 tiwice a day = 4
Truvavda 1 once a day = 1
Isentress 1 twice a day= 2

Accupril 1 once a day= 1
Omega-3 fatty acids twice a day =2
Tricor 1 once a day =2

Lopermide 2 tiwice a day =2 ( FOR THE HERSHEY SQUIRTS)
RANITDINE 2 tiwice a day = 2 ( for the stomach acid issues)
TUMS whenever I want as many as I can eat ( for the stomach acid issues)

It's interesting how everyone is so different when it comes to reactions from their meds.  I take norvir twice a day and have no reaction from it.  Maybe it's because I take the liquid from and just pump it right in.

And to denb45  if you are taking all those tums for stomach acid maybe protonix or prevacid would give you better relief.  I take 30mg of prevacid solu tabs twice a day.  They just dissolve right on your tongue ... no fuss no muss.   Just a thought.
