Homeschool.
« on: December 14, 2006, 03:54:42 pm »
Well, lots of stuff has happened within the past few days.

After talking to my therapist, some guidance counselors at school [including the school's crisis counselor] and my parents we've decided that, most likely, instead of going to public school I'll be home schooled instead via these guys: http://www.pacyber.org/.

For a few reasons:
- My attendance sucks because -
a. anxiety
b. feeling like crap
- My parents are fed up with how I'm being treated by the school.
- I'm fed up with being teased/threatened by other kids.
- I find it difficult to concentrate in a classroom.

So, yeah. Some have more weight than others but I'll be relieved if this works out successfully. I've been talking to my parents about it for like a frigging year and just now they've kind of buckled.

I understand my school work, I even ENJOY my schoolwork and I like to do it and I like learning and I'm interested in what I'm doing, but between like NEVER being at school and even when I AM at school having to deal with all the superficial nonsense that goes on there makes the entire experience shit for me.

So, yeah.

Good luck my man you sound like you have your head on straight.

It'll be quite a different environment. If it comes to pass, make the best of it. Try your hardest not to spend any extra free hours just hanging out in your room.

Mouse,

I checked out the website. As someone who has worked in the field of education, I would definitely be interested in your experiences with this cyber-school.  Like LongIslander says, this is only going to work with a real commitment from you.  You have to ask yourself if you are disciplined enough to consistently motivate yourself to work alone  and over a long period of time.  If you think you can, go for it!  But believe me - it will take a HUGE effort on your part to stay focussed and do it properly.

Whatever you choose, I'm wishing you the best.

Hey Jaser...

This could very well be a positive change for you as you will not have the other distractions as you have had at the school to deal with. The main thing is again, you will need the discipline as well to do your school work at home. Take care of you.
