Silicone Between The Eyes... Any Advice?
« on: September 25, 2008, 11:44:29 pm »
I've been deliberating for about a year and have posted a couple times on the board, but have finally scheduled an appt. w/Dr. Harvey Abrams in LA to have silicone injected into my face.  I want to start with the pad at the top of the bridge of my nose, between the eyes.  I've developed deep creases there that are more akin to someone 15-20 years older than myself.
I'm wondering if anyone else out there has had injections in that area and can fill me in on their experience (how it looked, did it bruse?, recovery time?)
I'm hoping to do it Friday afternoon and go back to work Monday without anyone noticing.  Think that's possible?

I had a small amount of silicone injected between my eyebrows by Dr. Serra in Brazil. He said doctors need to be careful when injecting in that area... I can't remember if it had to do with muscles or nerve endings in that area. For a small area you should have minimal bruising and swelling. You should definitely be able to have the procedure on Friday and return to work on Monday.

Thanks for the reply.  Yes I had heard you needed a real specialist when getting injections between the eyes.  Dr. Abrams is probably the most experienced in LA.  I researched another doc recommended on the SINNERS forum and found he had blinded a guy in one eye when doing the injections.  I don't remember all the details, but the doc got off on technicalities so the poor soul was left blind in one eye w/no recourse.  Dr. Abrams makes patients sign an "agree to arbitration" agreement which essentially shields him from lawsuits.  Not really fair, but that's life.

I know a lot of us have thinning temples, especially those of us over 40.  When I've looked at pics online of HIV+ men over 40, it seems an unusually large number of them have at least one temple that has a noticable vein running the length of it.  I have the same problem.

I just got a silicone treatement in my temples. My face is still a tiny bit swollen in the temple area, however, I so happy to look in the mirror and no longer see a large protruding vein running down the side of my head!   The treatment seems to have hidden it, although I won't know for sure until probably after a few weeks.

I am going back in three weeks to get an injection between the eyes.  The doc insisted I have botox first and wait about three weeks so I won't be able to possible frown and move the silicone.  Makes sense to me even though it costs a bit more.

I'll update as the story unfolds.

Had the silicone treatment between my eyes and about 12 hours later noticed I was looking rather odd.  The space has been well filled in, but it is still slightly swollen, so only time will tell.   I'm thinking things look a bit weird because the swelling has caused the inside edge of my eyebrows to be pushed to the underside of the top of my eye socket... and also because the bridge of my nose is now slightly wider.
I'm hoping this is temporary.  I've noticed that the volume effect of silicone seems to fade quite a bit after about one week.  There's still a definite improvement, but that initial big volume look goes away.  I guess that's why multiple treatments are usually required.

After a week, the "odd look" subsided and it seems to have worked out well... combined with the botox.  It's a big improvement... at least to me.
My face was also sore for a week and is still a bit tender... but this lasted for about 10 days after the first treatment.

I've heard that Dr. Derek Jones is a leading authority on applying silicone micro-droplets and he is based in LA. I would not think he would be the one who blinded the guy you mention but I wanted to ask, just in case, since I"m considering going to him. Thanks@!

Sorry, I don't recall the name.  He was recommended by someone on the LA SINNERS forum.  I did my own web research and decided to use Dr. Abrams.  It worked out ok for me, but there was a lot more soreness than I expected and it lasted about 6 weeks.
I think a lot of the silicone injected into my temples seems to have begun vanishing.  I thought it was supposed to be longer lasting, but perhaps it requires more treatments.
Since I last posted, I met someone who had his cheeks built up by Dr. Abrams and they looked great.

As far as  the Dr having you sign a paper saying you want arbitrate is to be looked at by a lawyer that handels those things. I bet you get a response from a good lawyer that it means nothing depending which State you live in and have the Surgery done.
