3-month regimen of antiretrovirals ?
« on: October 06, 2012, 01:13:04 pm »
Hi all!

I really need some advices.
I had unprotected sex couple months ago with a girl who probably knows about her status and now here I am having fever and tested pos. I assume she knows about this because at the morning she talked something about a medication then I asked what that is and she just started speaking about something else.

Before her I was always tested neg. And before her I didnt have sex for 2 years.

So the problem is that she didnt tell me her status. I probably can reach her by her phone and meet her. But I dont know her address.

What should and can I do know ?

I am going to skip the personal side of this and how it makes you feel, what you need to focus on right now is you.  I have been poz for 18 years, almost half of my life.  I waited to long to start getting regular medical treatment till I was almost .....  Find a Health care specialist that you like, this relationship is far more important than hers.  Learn about your illness and what changes will need to happen to your lifestyle and you can live to be a Jolly Old Elf (just an expression).  There are many many many questions that even I still have daily.  Primarily I focus on being positive, don't think your in this alone.

Live Long and Prosper- sorry could not helpit.

Please disregard the above poster, as that poster is not authorized to post in this forum.

to the original poster: Have you been tested? A test at this point would be pretty accurate, however only a test at three months is considered definitive.

Of course I don't have to remind you to ALWAYS wear a condom for penetrative sex until such time as you are in an exclusively monogamous relationship AND have both tested reliably negative for HIV.

New, you need to get tested at 3 months after the most recent risk to determine your HIV status. HIV is significantly more difficult to transmit from female to male than the other way around. And given that it was a single incident of unprotected intercourse the odds are in your favor that you will test negative.

There is nothing HIV specific about your symptoms. If they continue you should discuss them with your doctor.

In terms of HIV risk sexually, all you have to do to properly protect yourself in the future is to always without any exceptions wear a condom everytime for vaginal and sexual intercourse. Those are the only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV.

Good luck with your test. I think it is likely you will come out of this ok. If you test positive, it is necessary to have that result confirmed with a western blot to be sure that you are actually HIV positive.

Please clarify if I am missing something here.

I see you guys did not understand what I was talking about.

The problem already happened.

I would like to know now if she made a criminal act by not telling me her status.

Please enlighten me. Are you HIV positive? If so then your post should be moved to another forum here.

And unless you were a victim of rape, your unprotected sex was consensual. While many places indeed do criminalise HIV it is, in my earnest opinion, a terrible thing to do. To consent to unprotected sex is to consent to the possibility of an STI, including HIV. Taking responsibility for your own infection is paramount to fighting the disease.

There is the legal possibility that you could wreck someone's life. But it will not undo your own decision to have unprotected sex. It will not restore your HIV status. And it will perpetuate ignorance and stigma that, if you are indeed HIV positive, you will have to contend with yourself.

In short, you made the choice as an adult. While I personally think a person has a moral obligation to inform others of his/her status before engaging in risky situations, I so not believe the legal system should be involved in cases of consensual sex.

Have you teased positive using both elisa and western blot? Are you aware of your numbers?

3-month regimen of antiretrovirals ?
« Reply #7 on: October 11, 2012, 04:34:00 pm »
Hi guys!

I was reading something on the Internet, but I dont understand what the writer means by that. So If anyone ones about PEP or the 3-month regimen of antiretrovirals, would be appreciated if would explain it.
This is the text I was reading. About PEP now Im kinda familiar, but have no idea what the other stuff meant to be.

"If a condom breaks, which is very rare, but possible, you need to put the sex on halt and figure out what’s going on. Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), a 3-month regimen of antiretrovirals that greatly reduces the chances of getting HIV, is available if the person has been exposed to your fluids."

Thanks a lot

sad,
I've removed your new thread from the Living forum - where you are not permitted to post - and merged it into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep everything in one thread. It doesn't matter how long it has been since you last posted in your thread or if the subject matter is different.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

PEP does not last three months - it is only taken for four weeks (28 days)  and it must be initiated within 72 hours of the risk.

...And you still have not confirmed whether or not you have had a positive Elisa test result which has been confirmed by a positive western blot. Until if and when that happens you need to remain in this forum and use only this thread for any comments.

Please clarify the situation.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Andy Velez asked me in another topic to clarify my situation, but I can not post there somehow, so Iam writing here.

Long story short, I am a straight male. Met a native Canadian girl at a bar. Ive never seen her before and took her home with me. It was the first bad decision I made, because I drank too much. Had unprotected sex with her for a while then stopped when anxiety stepped in.
Had a shower, tried to clean my penis as much as I could. (Now I know it doesnt matter).
Next morning she told me that she is sometimes painting prostitutes and she has relatives who use niddles for drugs (I assume she too). Also she said she has to go for her medicine. When I asked what kind of medicine she changed the topic. I was still drunk and stupid that I didnt ask her status.
Also her face was shrunk probably, because her medication is against the HIV virus and we know that having these pills sometimes change the face structure. Also I checked the Internet for statistics and It says native Canadian people are the majority with HIV infection who are from reserves. (More than 75%).
My assumption is that she is an HIV infected native Canadian prostitute, but this is just my guess.

So after couple days when I realized the huge risk what I took drunk, I thought there is nothing to do, Im going to kill myself or somehow try to be used to the situation and take pills after I will be diagnosed.
Of course after 12-14 days I started having symptoms. Mild fever, sore throat, mild sweating at nights.
Then I was in shock and didnt know what to do. Left my job and I was in bed for weeks. Tried to prepare for the bad news. By this time I started having symtoms like extreme fatigue (never had before), high sound in my ears, huge blood pressure (couldnt sleep at all). After research I found that it could have been of extreme stress.  Although I never had diarrhea or rash. (I know some people never had it with the infection).
So I was tested at 6 weeks 3 days for almost every sexual transmitted diseases and it came out all negative, but we all know that it is not 100% precise.

I know I did a stupid move. I would never have done this if Iam sober. I am totally the opposite of that person who took this girl to home at that night.

I am still worried, but less then before. My boss gave me back my job and things are better, but I just cant believe that I can be that lucky. Of course at 12 weeks Iam going to be checked again, maybe I just turn positive later. Please comment my post and assess my risk from your views.

Thanks

You have not tested positive. You need to stay out of the other threads.

Stop with all the drama. You've had unprotected intercourse which means you need to get tested. You can do that initially at 6 weeks and then at 3 months for a conclusive result, hopefully a negative one.

Sad,

You can no longer post in your thread in the Am I Infected? forum because people are only permitted three free posts in this forum, and you have (more than) used those three posts up. If you wish to post more in these forums, you will need to take out a subscription. See the huge IMPORTANT UPDATE that appears at the top of each and every Am I Infected? forum page, and also read the Pay-For-Participation Subscription Instructions thread which is stickied at the top of the main AII? index page.

You were never likely to end up hiv positive following a single incident of unprotected insertive vaginal intercourse, even if she is hiv positive. Further, if she is indeed on hiv meds and has an undetectable viral load, you're more likely to win a multi-million dollar lottery than you are to end up positive following a one-off.

Your six-plus week negative is not going to change. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days.

A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is HIGHLY UNLIKELY TO CHANGE.

You need to cut the drama and get on with your life. You also need to stop posting in forums where you are not permitted to post. You have NOT "Just Tested POZ", so you may NOT post in that forum. If you insist on posting there again, you will be banned from these forums. Please consider yourself warned.

In future, make sure you're using a condom no matter who you're with. Stop making judgement calls on the basis of what ethnic group a person belongs to or what things their relatives may do regarding drugs. ANYONE you come in contact with may be hiv positive, so protect yourself accordingly by ALWAYS using condoms. It's not WHO you do, it's HOW you do it. Get those three letters in the correct order when weighing up your sexual risks.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!!!

Nice try to circumvent the rules in Living WIth HIV - a topic about which you clearly have neither empathy nor comprehension.

Your post in the other section of the forum has been noted and reported. You chose to have unprotected sex. You are not an infant, nor, I assume, mentally challenged. Yet you choose to take essentially zero responsibility for your actions, and would rather vilify others than do so.
