Received oral sex + Scabby toe

I'll keep this brief;

Married guy, STI and HIV negative upto 20/11/09. Had a full STI screen including HIV test back in August - all negative.

two weeks ago I received an unprotected blow job from an anonymous bloke in the sauna of my regular gym. I don't know his status.The BJ last for all of about 10 seconds. I did cum (onto my towel). At the time of this incident i did have a pretty bruised and scabbed up big toe. Not sure if any fluids hit that toe. I am pretty anal (no pun intended) and have some anxiety issues surrounding my health generally and sexual health in particular.

My questions are thus;

1. Have I put myself at risk for HIV infection through receiving an unprotected BJ?

2. If the other guy also came and he was positive and his semen hit my toe with the scab does this count as a possible transmission route. Or is this a just an impossibility?

3 Do I need to take another HIV test?

4. Other STI results permitting can I start having sex again with my wife; we are trying to start a family, so we are not using any protection?

I am aware of the risks of other STI's and have had some swabs taken, provided a urine sample etc. Results expected on Thursday (10/12/09). Not had any symptoms, blisters, lesions, lumps and bumps, either around my penis or in general.

I'm lucky in that I had access to probably the best GUM clinic in the UK (Addenbrookes)  and the advice they gave me was that there was no risk as far as HIV is concerned. However I had completely forgotten about the scabby toe!!!

this is the first time I've ever done something like this - and most probably the last. I have all the guilt issues around this, but just want to focus on what I need to do to protect my wife. And If I have caught anything how to do with that.

I would be grateful to hear your thoughts?

You didn't have a risk of contracting HIV from receiving a blowjob.

No guy, with or without scabby toes, has ever been confirmed to have become infected through receiving a blowjob. It's safe to say you aren't going to make history by becoming the first.

You are worrying needlessly. Give it up and get on with your life. Really.

thanks for the replies.

I guess now that I'm looking at my concerns they do seem a little outlandish, especially the scabby toe things. Guess it was my anxiety kicking in and looking for something that simply can't and doesn't happen.

I totally get what you have told me; No risk at all for HIV infection from either the BJ or through the scabby toe. Ergo no need to test either .

As a result of this I've decided to get some counseling for help with my general health anxiety issues. I'm going to get back to my life now.

I really didn't want to repost any further questions about my "risk", however, I seem to be caught up in some vicious circle of self doubt. Isaac an article claiming that I did indeed have a risk but that the risk was approximately 1 in 20,000. Is this factual? Yet I saw link pm another post to the SF clinic that stated 100% no risk from reciveing a blow job. Now I don't know what to do. I'll probably test at 28 days. But now not so sure of my status.

I'm more worried about protecting my wide at this point than am about me.

Fortunately doubts and fears aren't facts. And the facts as you have reported them add up to no risk. Period.

If you can't let go of this unwarranted fear then get some professional counseling to help you deal with it. We're not here to indulge you everytime you have another burst of anxiety. If you continue to return repeatedly about this non-risk, you will very quickly find yourself getting a 28 day time out from the site.

Cut out the drama and get on with your life. Really.

As a courtesty I thought I would give you an update on my situation..........

tested NEGATIVE for the following (please excuse the spelling!!);

Chalmdiya & Gonnerea - PCR and Urine
Syphilis - Blood test
Hep - Blood test
HIV - Blodd test.

Am now in therapy - and seem to be making progress; Have confronted issues surrounding my sexuality and of course unwarranted fears of HIV. As I mentioned in my first post I have mental health issues surrounding my general health and sexual health (unwarranted issues as it turns out). But I'm making progress.

Andy, I'd like to apologise to you for coming back with some outlandish fears. Infection through scabby toes indeed!!! I'm embarassed to think that I even asked that question, let alone gave it any serious thought. However it just highlights how unwell I was at the time.

Before I finish I would just like to ask a question if i May. But before I do I would like to make it clear that this is in no way a "what if" question. Rather it's about HIV testing in general, however I understand that it might be beyond the scope and function of this forum. The question is this; when I went to the GUM clinic to get tested for Spyhilis they also tested me for HIV and Hep infection. I was under the impression that they had to ask permission to do this. I don;t have any issue with the fact that they tested me for HIV and Hep at all, but was curious from a policy point of view.

Anyway, I'll probably not be posting any further replies, as I have no business now on this forum. All that's left is for me to thankyou for your answers and for the information and service that you provide. I wish you all the very best for teh future.

The current UK testing guidelines (2008) can be read here. You should have been offered hiv testing with the chance to opt out. I believe that permission no longer has to be obtained in writing - a simple "yes" will do. It could be that hiv testing was mentioned, but either quickly or not clearly.

I hope you realise you do not need further testing over this no risk situation. And good luck to you with the therapy - that's the right thing to do.
