kissing and biting.
« on: August 26, 2012, 11:19:38 am »
Hello everyone, maybe this topic is kinda boring, but I'm currently feeling very paranoid. First of all, I'm 18 and I'm still a virgin. I'm a male. Probably one year ago, I went to this club and I got really drunk, I kissed this girl, which is my friend's cousin. Can I get hiv through this kind of contact ? If there's blood in his or her mouth? Because I was really drunk at that time and it was really dark. So I get close to this girl, and we went to watch a movie. And suddenly she bit me!! I couldn't notice any blood because it was too dark in the theater, she bit me like a couple of times, and I think the scar wasn't really deep, but if the scar is really deep and if she has blood in her saliva, could I get hiv from this kind of contact? I'm feeling really paranoid right now. Because just now I searched through this search engine and found some cases related to biting these victims doesn't have sexual contact and only get it through biting, I'm really really scared. Thanks for wanting to waste some time reading this. I really need help.

HIV is not transmitted by kissing, blood or not.

Since you are at the beginning of becoming sexually active this is a good time for you to get with the basics. The ONLY confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. That's it. As long as you consistently and properly use condoms for those activities you will be well protected against getting HIV sexually.

Kissing including deep kissing, mutual masturbation and other activites not risks for HIV.

I'm sorry if I asked again, but I'm feeling really paranoid right now because just now I readd some articles that said that in around the 90s a child got hiv because he was bitten by his brother who was infected, and there are several cases reporting that it is possible to catch hiv by bitting. So I was really afraid right now, can you gi ve me an advice? I was really paranoid after seeing those cases.

Well to be exact, the biting was not on my mouth, it was on my arm and on my back. Can it transmit hiv? By bitting on the arm if blood was involved? I'm sorry for asking so much questions.

You have already been advised that you didn't have an exposure and how HIV is transmitted.

How many times do you have to be told you are worrying needlessly?

Biting is not a risk for HIV transmission. You can go ahead and get tested if you want to just for your peace of mind, but that would be a waste of money. If there was even a doubt about your situation we would say so. You were not at risk.

Cut out the drama and get on with your life. Really.

One last question, so those cases recorded by bitting wouldve not been the cause of biting? So the virus wouldve been tramsmitted by other ways in those cases? Well thanks for the advices!

fg,

You couldn't have read the literature on biting transmission very carefully.

All documented cases where transmission did occur included SEVERE TRAUMA with EXTENSIVE TISSUE DAMAGE and the presence of blood. A lot of blood.

If the bites you sustained were even remotely a risk for hiv infection, you wouldn't have been wondering if there was any blood involved ("I couldn't notice any blood because it was too dark") and you wouldn't have been wondering how deep the wound was ("I think the scar wasn't really deep"). You would have had to go to a hospital to get your bites sewn up.

You're worrying over nothing. Bites as you describe have NEVER been implicated in hiv transmission and further more, they never will.
