I Need Some Advice About My Condition.

Hello everyone,
I am a 21 y/o male, recently I visited my doctor, and have a blood test, urinalysis and chest xray. My doctor found out that I have some infection on my lungs and she gives me some med's for TB medication that will lasts for 6 months. The problem is my urinalysis result, my doctor also found out that I have many bacteria on my urine and asked me when is the last time I have sex.. I told her that it was a month ago and is totally unprotected. Then she asked me if my partner is a girl or a guy, I told her it was a girl. Then she recommend that I am going to take an "HIV Screening Test" which makes me feel paranoid. Cause I can't believe that I am to be infected with an HIV. I was thinking to take the test or not, cause I don't believe that I can be infected of HIV with that girl, I know the girl and we have sex about 3 times already with a span of time with our last intercourse. I asked my doctor why I needed to have an HIV test? She told me that I show some early symptoms of HIV which is fever,nausea,loss of appetite and weight loss. But I was thinking of this is a symptoms of my tuberculosis. Anyone could give me some advise or help about this situation. I was thinking of it for days already and feel uncomfortable to it, and is thinking if I am positive I rather commit suicide. Please anyone could give me some advices.

Any time you have unprotected intercourse you are putting yourself at risk for hiv infection. It doesn't matter if you know the person or not - many people do not know they are hiv positive.

The earliest you should test for hiv is at six weeks following your last incident of unprotected intercourse. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by this time, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

Neither symptoms nor the lack of symptoms will ever tell you a single thing about your hiv status. ONLY testing at the appropriate time will.

You need to stop having unprotected intercourse. Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

If I can remember correctly, I have a sexual intercourse with a woman I don't know last October 2010, 3 days after I found out that girl infected me with an std, I visited a physician and she examined my urine and blood, and I was injected with anti-bacteria and let me took antibacterial drugs for 10 days. And the discharged from my penis was gone. Is it possible that STD is not cured and now returned as HIV on me?

No that is not possible. STDs don't turn into HIV.

Good to here that. But what if the doctor was wrong if it is not an STD maybe an HIV, and I got the symptoms now? Is it possible? and what is the earliest symptoms HIV? how many days after being infected that symptoms would appear? thanks for your response..

Ok, I do understand Ann, can I take Home rapid testing? Cause I am afraid to go on laboratory, cause at this point of time I trust nobody. Especially on our country where confidentiality of medical conditions are not being respected. Thanks again for your response.

The only home testing kit I can recommend is Home Access and it is not available in your country. There are other kits available on the internet but they have an extremely high rate of false positive results. Don't waste your time or money on one of those.

You're just going to have to suck it up and get a proper, approved test done. If you do happen to be hiv positive, the alternative to not testing is death due to undiagnosed hiv infection. It's as stark and simple as that.
