My expectations for the AMG
« on: October 03, 2006, 09:02:03 pm »
This is only what "I" want and expect from the AMG.  Others are welcome to add their own comments and thoughts, but let's not let this devolve into ickyness.   I'm going to phrase most of this in a 'what I want' fashion.

  • I want the AMG held in a major city
  • I want the city to have a gay district
  • I want the hotel located close and convenient to the gay district
  • I want there to be lots of activities to choose from there
  • I want to eat at an outdoor cafe
  • I want to go where I have never been before (not too many places of note thus far)
  • I want to be able to go shopping at some funky stores (not a mall) but a shopping district
  • I want there to be a few gay clubs to choose from in our 'free' time
  • I want to bring my boa next year too
  • I want this to be a vacation as much as a gathering to get to meet acquaintences and hopefully make them friends
  • I want to be able to go off and do my own thing outside of the scheduled events
  • I want a room with Shane :)
  • I want people to take more pictures and especially video
  • I want a city with character and a 'style'
  • I want convenient transportation.... cabs won't do... subways are best or trolleys
  • I want the next AMG to be on the west coast, us easterners have had our fair share
  • I want everyone to attend and be comfortable attending
  • I want the chance to do something I have never done before that isn't available in Orlando
  • I want another Tim Horn presentation (though I'm not big on presentations.. the presenter was still most excellent
  • I want the AMG offically to remain a 3 day event.. Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • I want the option to drink without being scolded, unless I'm falling down drunk (which never happened in Montreal)
  • I want to eat at something like Chez Cora's again
  • I want to be able to walk the streets and feel like I'm really there and seeing interesting things just being there
  • I want strippers (preferably naked like montreal)
  • I want a welcoming and friendly hotel staff
  • I want good rates at the hotel
  • I want the cheapest possible airfare to the AMG host city, major cities being cheaper usually
  • I want to be able to 'connect' with others there but also want my 'me' time to do what i want
  • I want easy transportation from the airport to the hotel, like a shuttle
  • I want to be able to me just 'me' there
  • I want to make another CD/DVD
  • I want the bickering to stop
  • I want options for those who want to do other things than the 'bars' (read: gay bars) in our free time, but ya'll need to plan this yourselves.  If it's missing, do something to add optional evening events
  • I want to feel free to do what I want to do
  • I want to walk hand in hand down the street with my boyfriend without fearing being beaten up
  • I want a nice sociable atmosphere for the 'structured' events
  • I want plenty of options for everyone for stuff to do in the 'off-time'..going left or right to whatever suits your fancy
  • I want a better exchange rate
  • I want to possibly do a cruise... i'm intrigued by the idea of all of us on a boat
  • I want to talk to Andy more next time
  • I want each AMG to be a memory of a lifetime for me... and they thus far have been
  • I want world peace and to save the dolphins, but I'd screw all that for a great AMG2007
  • I want to be surprised everyday there with something new
  • I want memories that will last a lifetime... and they have... at least till dementia sets in
  • I want to teabag a roomate while sleepwalking....again!   eeep!
  • I want this thread to be civil
  • I want more participation from poz and SOME coverage of the event in their magazine.  Why has this event been ignored?
  • I want everyone to participate and contribute..something.... each small part makes this better than the whole
  • I want to be respected for who I am and not their preconceptions of who I am, nor condemnation because I don't meet 'their' moral standards

What I don't want is a much shorter list
  • I don't want a retreat type setting like the camp thing.. it's fine for a daytrip, but would be horrible for a whole event

I want to have some kind of organization to it, whether its as simple as one organized meal a day that all are encouraged to attend with some kind of presentation or even round table discussion involved to organized group outings; I also want some options of things to do on my own if I want...but want those as options and not as the main reason of why I am attending.

I couldn't agree more.

I want a location that doesn't take three planes, two buses and a donkey to get to....though the donkey could be fun.

Unfortunately this is how I will have to travel, regardless of where the final location will be held...but I agree the donkey would be fun.. much better than getting a taxi from the airport.. :D

I love the way you worded that. Powerful. Thank you. Now I'm going to steal it

My expectations are wide open -- I just want to attend my first one.  I found AM a year ago, and by the time I heard of the AMG06, it had passed and was generating a bit of controversy in the forums.
Having been involved with a number of gatherings for a 12-step program I want to give the following additional expectations:

- Somethings will NOT go as I want (or as the organizers want, or as anyone wants) and I promise to try and focus on the things that I do like and remember the reason I want to attend in the first place.

- The time I have will be far less dependent on the where's and what's and almost wholly dependent on my frame of mind and my willingness to take part in what IS available (always respecting my own boundaries)

- That I will be willing to help however I can (this is an invitation to the organizers to ask for my help -- not sure what or how, but I'll do whatever I can)

-  That I get to meet new friends.

-  That I get to give and receive alot of hugs.

-  That I leave AMG 07 feeling a little less scared about this journey I started last year.

I hope that this isn't too much to expect of myself (and maybe some others too).   ;D

Looking forward to meeting you all,
Mike
