Picked Up My Atripla Today
« on: February 17, 2010, 12:42:49 am »
There seem to be a bunch of us boarding the Atripla Express this week!  Haven't decided whether to start it Wednesday or Thursday night.

I promised myself starting wouldn't be a lot of drama, but for some reason it seems very hard to contemplate taking that huge pill.   :P

I know what you mean northernguy. When I first saw the Atripla pill at the doc's office, I said "Whoa, that's a hell of a pill !" because it looked so big. It doesnt seem so big anymore, I guess I've gotten used to it real quick. It seemed like such a big step at the time, like a turning point, but I feel much better now.  All aboard !

Good luck northern! :D

Had a hard time falling asleep, but that probably due to stress.  Vivid but not unpleasant dreams,  Feeling dozy this morning though.  Luckily I'm off for 3 days starting tomorrow.

I've been taking Atripla for 2 1/2 years now and so far no bad side effects to report except for the cost. My insurance sucks and pays next to nothing for prescriptions and that stuff is so expensive. Good luck with that No. Guy. It's really some good stuff. My numbers have improved steadily since I started it.

I'm extremely apprehensive about beginning. I feel pretty lousy most of the time now and cannot imagine voluntarily making myself feel worse. I feel that it's highly likely I will experience side effects, and want to be very prepared for them.

If you feel pretty lousy the meds might make you feel better.

True. Or not. I really must be prepared for the worst, which would be having to switch to another regimen after a couple of weeks of hell, and then possibly dealing with more bad side-effects.

I've been poz a very long time and never taken meds. And glad about that fact. I knew a lot of people that had terrible trouble with meds, but back in the AZT days. Actually, I think it's the HCV that makes me feel so bad lately. Will know more after getting my lab results Monday.

I felt terrible before meds (mildly fatigued for over a year and then ill for 1+ months when I unknowingly was walking around with PCP).  I also felt crappy for a long time after I started my meds but I am glad I am on them because now I feel so much better.  (I believe that I going through Immune Reconstitution after I started my meds, which is why I didn't feel well.)

Definitely keep in touch with your doctor if you experience side effects but, remember, sometimes the (tolerable) short-term side effects are worth the long-term benefits.  And hopefully you don't experience no side effects at all.  Good luck!!

AZT. Ugh. I hated that.

Gave me the most excruciating headaches.

If I might ask, have you been treated for HCV? I'm told that's pretty rough stuff.

Nope. Not really interested after hearing how bad it is. And I have type 1, the least likely to respond. Last check (2 years ago) liver test results were still good, but haven't had a biopsy.

In the last conversation with my new doctor (just moved cross-country) about things, she said there was a new drug about to come on the market (in about 6 months). I have such a hard time remembering details from my doctor visits I plan now to begin making audio recordings with my cell phone instead of taking incomplete notes. I'm curious what this new drug is and would like to research it, if possible.

I'm working on a short biography which will include test results going back to `96. Really glad I started asking for copies of lab reports, everyone should. Hard to believe it's not standard procedure to give copis to patients.

I have been on Atripla for five years or more and never had a problem.  Its much easier than swallowing ten Viracepts a day like I did in the beginning.
