Best States for HIV/Ryan White/ADAP Care
« on: May 14, 2013, 10:51:43 am »
:)  Hi, I am currently living in central Florida where the "care" and funds are not so great.  If I was considering of relocating out of this state, can anyone here recommend to me as to what state(s) have the better HIV/Ryan White/ADAP care programs, which include dental....???  Also, the agency that I am with really doesn't seem to care, but what if a patient needs to go to a dermatologist, urologist, cardiologist, etc and does not have his or her own insurance and is not on Medicaid, just Ryan White.   Sorry to babble, but the agency here is beyond horrible.

Just so you're aware..... there may be vast differences between metro areas within the same state.  So research carefully.

I live in Philadelphia and Ryan White is very comprehensive here. Dental services are supplied by HIV-oriented clinics at Univ. of PA and Temple Univ. The ADAP drug formulary is quite comprehensive. I'm not sure what happens when a patient solely on RW needs specialist care like a cardiologist. Just because you don't qualify for Medicaid in Florida doesn't mean you won't qualify for it in another state, because most southern states have very low income cut-offs whereas states outside that region are higher.

Hi Sanju,
I have lived in the Northeast most of my life and live in MA now. MA and NY have the highest income cutoff limits for ADAP. Also, MA has a state health insurance program. If you don't qualify for Medicaid, but still qualify for ADAP (HDAP in MA and you can make about $54,000 & still qualify), HDAP will Pay for your health insurance. So all doctors, cardiologists are covered, & we have a Ryan White program. We have no waiting list for HDAP, a great formulary list. The Boston Metro area and Provincetown both have Active AIDS Service Organizations.

So yes it's more expensive to live in MA, but the services more than make up for that added expense. Best wishes, Hugs, Deibster
