Can't Sleep!
« on: December 21, 2006, 01:09:57 pm »
Hey guys,

I am a newbie but have had several night sweats and insomia for about a month now and I look horrible.

Any suggestions on any sleep aides? I tried Lunesta but that only last for a couple of hours and gives me a headache the next day which feels like a migrane. I use to like Nyquil but that is not good to take every night. I tried teas but that doesnt do much. Any other alternative?

hey there - with your doctor's guidance, i suggest the two of you discuss valerian root capsules or the tea version (warning: valerian tea smells like used gym socks) to address your sleep issue. as for the night sweating, all i can say is good luck; other members will post i'm sure  :)

Being that you are new to this the insomnia could be stress related.   Just curious, do you work?   Are you napping during the day?   Also, in my experience with sleep aids I found once they were absent I had difficulties falling asleep at night also.

The night sweats are a product of your body fighting infection while you are sleeping.   No matter what my numbers were I always had the occasional night sweats and they increased when my numbers dropped dramatically the last 6 months.   Up until last week I was still getting night sweats on a nightly basis....  I am only guessing, but my numbers must be improving since starting meds because I have not had night sweats all week.

Have you discussed any of this with your doctor?   If not I would and if it is some time before your next visit you may want to give your doctor a heads up before then.   My doctor was very concerned when I told her about my night sweats, especially the fact they were happening daily.

I know after I was diagnosed my sleeping habits suffered  greatly ; this may be the case for you.   When I was without weed (my sleeping aid) I found it very difficult to sleep regardless if I worked all day....

I would definitely talk to my doctor about this if I was you...  I hope you find some answers soon because you definitely need your sleep to help your body fight this virus.

I also had trouble sleeping after diagnosis but a few months later I am sleeping just fine for the most part. I talked with my dr and he suggested a tylenol pm regimen for two weeks and it worked. As for the night sweats I had them when my viral was only 5,000 but at the momment they have gone away or I am just not noticing.

Thank you guys for your advise.

It has to be stress related and of course being a newbie.

I use to enjoy my sleep and i had such wonderful dreams. Now going to sleep scares me because I think of many not so nice things. I noticed the night sweats have decreased alot and have not had any pains or symptoms since they stopped. I get my first blood results the 4th of January. Nice way to start the year huh. I am nervous guys, very nervous, please pray that my numbers start off ok. If my numbers look good I may recover some sleep. Happy Holidays guys!

Just try not to stress to much... not good for you.   Even if that first set is not so good, don't sweat it, ooops I mean don't... you know what I mean.   Everything will be ok.  I just had my one year anniversary and am amazed at when I look back at how I was then...  I made it!!
