Lancet reused, risk?
« on: February 26, 2017, 11:25:49 am »
Good evening everyone,
i live in Thailand i had a rapid test to bring home, in the STD clinic they gave me the Alere Determine, and separately the little fingerprick/lancet, the blue one, that  can be hypothetically reused (but are not supposed to be that).
I came back home in 10 minutes, i opened it, but it seemed reclosed yet, i had the stupid idea of using it, after i cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol napkin, then i used it to prick my finger.
If it was already used by an S+ person, i have some risk? I need PEP? Is it so toxic?
Thanks so much for all
Davide

The HIV is extremely fragile and does not survive exposure to oxygen and would not survive on a lancet in the manner in which describe and cause transmission to you.

Hi

You had no blood exposure, you had no risk and no need for further testing over this incident. Even if it had been reused it would not be a HIV risk.

Move on with your life.

Not at all conclusive, that would be 13 weeks post exposure.

However in you case over this incident its 100% conclusive as you simply can not have caught HIV from the incident posted as its biologically not possible.

You had no exposure to test for now we can not help you here further so please do not post about this conclusive no risk scenario again or it will lead to a time out (ban) from the forums.

Jim
