They Really, Really Like Me At Work!
« on: September 11, 2008, 07:22:12 pm »
In May of 2006 I got a letter informing me I had been nominated to serve on the Employee Advisory Group, a corporate initiative that was designed to give employees more voice in the workplace. We were to address workplace conditions, diversity, staffing, retention, anything that wasn’t compensation-related.  Administrators sat in on the meeting, so issues went directly to them. At our second meeting, I was voted chairperson.

It was hard work. I had to steer this committee to come up with a charter, start email suggestion boxes, do the agenda and often the minutes, keep track of attendance, recruit new members, make up flyers and little blurbs for the hospital newsletter…for two years I spent a good 15 hours a month on this, and I was recognized publicly several times at our quarterly “Employee Forums” by my CEO, but I was glad to hand over the reins to someone else in July, and thought, “Well, that’s going to look good on my resume.”

This morning I had an email from the HR director asking if I could come to the meeting today.  She had asked me last week if I was coming to the meeting because she had missed August and couldn’t remember when my last meeting was. I was happy to tell her July!

So I went to the meeting today, and the new chair introduced me and said I was asked to come back because some old issues had resurfaced and they wanted me there to give clarification. I thought, great, the HR director told me I didn’t need to bring anything and here I am in the spotlight, unprepared. About that time the Chief Nursing Officer walked in carrying a big frame.

I was presented with a large, very nicely framed certificate of appreciation for doing a good job as the inaugural chair of the EAG. And then she handed me an envelope with a letter stating I’ll be getting a $500 bonus on my next check.

It’s nice to be appreciated, good to be publicly recognized, and great to be compensated for it!

 ;D

THAT is a great piece of news and that they took the time to be clever in their delivery (and that you, for a moment, winced at being ill-prepared--love it). Yes, Sally Creighton Basquo Fields...I'd have to agree that they REALLY REALLY like you.
