I've just returned from a vacation in Colorado, and after 6 years of the grind in Washington, DC have decided it's time to relocate to the Denver area. My primary concern is, of course, making sure that the state's health policies will not make it difficult to gain health insurance - either through my employer or a private plan. I know that in my area, Virgina for example has laws that prevent insurance companies from discriminating based on a pre-existing condition.

Any of you from Colorado have tips, suggestions and/or advice before I start trying to change jobs?

Don't know, Zach,

However, when Eric gets up and to work, he should be able to enlighten you a bit.  I have a friend there who transferred to Denver in the year 2001, and he certainly had a pre-existing condition, in that he is HIV+ 24 years now.  The only thing I would worry about is if Denver still has a waiting list for ADAP or not.  I realize that you probably don't need ADAP just yet, but one never knows, and if you need to go on aid for any reason, then it would be good to know if they got this straightened out or not.  I know that last year at this time, they had a long waiting list for drug coverage.  This would not be the case for privately insured, but jsut in case you need it, nice to know.

Glad to see you like the west, and we welcome you to the region.  Gotta promise you that the winters in Denver are far more incredible than anything you might have seen in the past, but the rest of the year is always F A B U L O U S !!!!!

Eric and Denver Toad are there also, so check in with them when you get there and see if they are able to help in any way.

What a bummer that you went to Colorado a week before me!  My boyfriend's family is a bunch of lawyers so if you don't find the answer to your question from here, I'm sure I can find out this weekend.

YAWN..... Morning!

I was told by my ID doc that I can transfer to any job in Colorado and cannot be denied health benefits.  Its against the law here in Co...  You might want to call CAP (Colorado Aids Project) in Denver and they can fill you in on all of that stuff (esp coming from out of state etc)...  Since I have never changed jobs in 18 years it was not really a huge research project for me..  All I remember is a huge load off my shoulders was felt when I was told this...  Let me know if you have any questions about locations etc..  I been here a pretty dang long time..  At least up "here" that is..

Jason, I hope that the next trip out that way coincides with you and Stuart being in town. If you can, check out the Denver AIDS 10k on the 10th! We'll have to aim for both of us running it in 2007, if you're game!
