SSDI Approved...Medicare Soon. South Carolina Adap?

Finally approved for SSDI after two years and one attorney later. Payments gave started along with my back pay. Got my Medicare card in the mail already which is effective October 1st. I live in Columbia SC and will defiantly need help from ADAP. My doctor who I am very happy with happens to be in North Carolina so I will be doing most of the paper work without a case manager. My SSDI payment is too much to qualify for extra help. I plan on signing up for Medicare part D and currently reviewing plans available. Can anyone tell me how ADAP works with Medicare part D? Will I have to pay the premium and ADAP covers everything else? How do I get my meds local or mail order required? Any and all help is appreciated. BTW...this is a small town and I do not want to go to the local ASO for that reason.

Medicare Part D will be your primary insurer for prescriptions while ADAP will by your secondary, at least as long as what you're being prescribed is on their formulary.

are you driving clear up to Charlotte for health care? Goodness gracious. There are many times, I've been sent down to Columbia for care. LOL Maybe save yourself a couple dozen miles and stop in at Catawba Care in Rock Hill (Off 77 on Dave Lyle Blvd) if you don't want to access any of the many agencies/doctors in Columbia. (btw several of those agencies like PALSS or the clinic at USC will be happy to help with that ADAP/RW paperwork)


fyi I'm the Communications Chair of the SC HIV Task Force, and a voting member of the SC DHEC HIV Planning Council (and I just might be the Consumer Chair there after 7/8 if I win that election).  If you need SC info, or ever want to join our advocacy or advisory efforts, gimme a shout. How do I get my meds local or mail order required?

I'd be interested in the answer to this. I'm in Massachusetts and I've been getting my meds locally (at the supermarket pharmacy). I tried to do mail order back in 2011, but the HDAP here couldn't do mail order then.

I've taken a strong dislike to calling in for refills and going to pick up my meds. If I could automate it, that would be one less unnecessary stressor!

Just wanted to make sure you got correct info about Extra Help.  My parents thought they made too much.  They didn't.  However, they are over the limit for max resources, by just a few thousand dollars.  They could go ahead and give us our inheritance and qualify.  For now, they are both paying their Part B and D premiums, which is somewhere around $400 combined.  Instead of paying $2.50 for generic and $6.50 for brand name, they pay $40 for this drug, $30 for this other, $100 for this one, and so on and so on.  They also don't get the 20% paid that Part B doesn't. 

Anyway, you may have gotten good info and you are over the income limit.  Just thought I would post this, just in case.
