nose bleed during BJ
« on: October 01, 2008, 04:14:10 pm »
I met a guy - a stranger - who gave me a quick blow job, during which he had a nose bleed.  The blood from his nose did go on my penis.  I quickly wiped it off, but his blood went across my penis.  Ever since this incident, I have been worried and stressed out by this incident.  How risky was this - could I have been infected with HIV this way????  I have been watching my health for any HIV symptoms, and a couple of things have happened but nothing that definitely could suggest yes or no... please advise...

No, you cannot be infected that way.

No man has ever during the entire HIV epidemic been infected by receiving a blowjob. You aren't going to make history by becoming the first.

HIV is a fragiile virus. Even IF the man you were with is HIV+, his blood falling on to your penis is not going to cause transmission to take place. In order for that to happen, HIV needs a much more receptive setting, exactly the kind which unprotected anal (and vaginal) intercourse provide. Blood falling on to your penis wasn't going to find its way into your urethra.

You are worrying needlessly.

Is it worth having a HIV test over this incident??? A couple of doctors that I have mentioned this to seem indifferent and so I have never pushed to take a HIV test.

Everyone is telling you the same thing, that you weren't at risk for transmission during your bloody nose blowjob. Yet it seems you're still holding on as if nothing has been said to you.

You were not at risk. There is no need for testing over this incident. Got it?

It would be a waste of resources, but the only reason for gettng tested would be if getting the inevitable negative result is the only way you're going to let go of this groundless fear.

Give it up and get on with your life. Really.

Today I got my HIV result back and it was negative - as you predicted.

So, looking back, I have learnt two things from this experience -

Firstly, that supposed HIV symptoms can be caused by unecessary stress (I had genital thrush, angular chilitis and sinus problems following the incident).  HIV cannot be diagnosed by symptoms.  And secondly, that this is a fantastic information site.

Thanks.
