Look At The Muffin Head
« on: June 01, 2008, 12:30:41 pm »
OMG - I can't keep the secret any longer!  I has a PUPPY!  I have not decided on a name for her yet, but she is SO sweet.  I just adore her, and she is *all* about me!  She lays in my arms like a baby!  I waited to post about her til I knew for sure she would be mine - not claimed and the "right" dog.  And she is.

Possible names are:  Lola (named for the church where I found her abandoned), Gen (short for "Generic Dog"), Mooch, Igmo, Goofy, Velrco, Boom Boom (short for Boomerang & for reasons similar to "Velcro") and Nuisance.  Any suggestions welcomed, though I may stick with Lola since it seems to fit how she came into my life.

Gradually, all the pooch needs are being met...food and dishes, collar, chew toys (which she seems to have promptly buried), etc.  Next up is the big visit to the vet for the "snip" and to get health check up and shots.  Doing it little by little on a budget as fast as I can.

PS:  I think she may end up a big dog cuz she had kinda big paws.

Behold...

Isn't she, though?  I'm dying to go play with her right now, but she has been all out in the grass and it has just stormed here.  She's filthy.  LOL.

I can't get enough of her.   :)

Jole

Who knows??  I found out she was staying on the steps of the church down the road.  She had apparently been there for almost two weeks.  I couldn't take knowing she was up there fending for herself, so I drove up Wednesday before last in the evening and put her in the car to bring her home.  She decided she was home immediately.  She has been at my side ever since.  I have not taken her to the vet yet, but will shortly.  I have no idea her true age.

She looks great.  I recommend you contact your local humane society or SPCA because I can tell you the vet charges an arm and a leg for shots, spaying etc. You will save a ton of money though it is important to have a relationship with your local vet it is just as important to not spend a fortune if you do not have too.

I like Lola too. Now where is my camera so I can post a picture of my kids  ;D

I am happy for you. I'd stick with Lola, she seems like a Lola to me. Maybe that is why you were not meant to have the other pooch, he was just getting you ready for Lola. You gonna train her or let her have run of the house?

Congrats, she's adorable! I vote for Lola also. She looks like a Lola. I had a friend who named his dog Mojo so if it got lost he could go around the neighborhood saying "I've lost my Mojo. Can you help me find my Mojo?"

Enjoy your new friend!

Congrats on the new baby.  I like the name Lola.  The vet should be able to tell you how old she is and if she's ever been in heat / had puppies, etc.

Mini said she likes the name Lacey (after her stuffed dog), Baby, and Kayla, but Lola is easy to spell :P

Oh Timmy Dahlin,  ;D

Lola is just the love  ;D  Can I suggest you call your Case Manager to see if there are any non-profits offering reduced charges and maybe a little grant for vet care to persons living with HIV in your community?  My Case Manager was a little overloaded and PAWS  L.A. was nearly missed and what a program it was.  Have the best day

Tim,

She's adorable.  I hope you two will have many happy years together.

Will she be the new alpha female of the household?   ;)

Hugs,

Henry

P.S.  Living in a warm climate, you need to be sure to get her on heartworm preventive.

Actually, "muffin head" (or "pumpkin", for that matter) is something that I call all sorts of people / animals.

I am considering the full tag of Lola Bear since she has that kinda fuzzy bear face.  She's pacing around my window right now.  I can tell she's wanting to see me.   :)

Since you are not adopting her thru an animal rescue group...or a "shelter"...or SPCA you will find it more difficult to get help with vet expenses.  It MAY still be possible to get assistance however...if you go about the process of adoption with the SPCA or some animal group as your primary health provider for Lola.  I know when we adopted Maddie from a shelter we got a "deal" on the neutering  at the vet because she came to us as an adoption from a shelter.
I know she is going to be a lot of fun.

Well, to be blunt about it:  It ultimately doesn't matter what it costs.  It just has to be done and will be.  I can get help with pet costs from PALS here, but I have to have her for a year for that to kick in.  Meantime, I am managing the day-today expenses just fine.  And I can also swing the heartworm meds.  It's just the one-time initial snip and shots that will be a booger...but I'll figure that out, too.

It's just what you do, eh?

I am utterly amazed by this dog.

I haven't "trained" her really at all, yet she does just about everything I want exactly as I wish.  For example, one thing she WON'T do (at least yet) is a leash.  If I put one on her, she goes completely limp / dead weight.  She also looks heartbroken.  But I want her to be able to walk with me.  She has been coming with me, and you can hear for a good distance when a car is coming.  All I have to do is snap my finger and point to where I want her to go and she goes.  Motion for her to sit and she sits.  In fact, most times I don't even have to do that - she seems to intuitively move and do what I want as I want it.  I'm rather astonished by it, actually.  Beats the heck out of me - as I really and truly do not believe this dog has been trained at all by anyone.  It isn't 100%, mind you - as there was a play encounter with some neighboring dogs where I didn't have her attention well for a good 5 minutes or so.  But outside those rarest of instances, it is most uncanny.  And boy does she love me.  I can pick her up like a a baby and turn her any direction / position (like upside down or whatever) and she is completely trusting and completely unafraid.

now that's luv ;D

Yup.  It's kinda hard for me to get used to (the whole "not yet on a leash" thing) because I have always been in a much more high traffic area where it would simply be altogether out of the question.  I still want to get her accustomed to one - it just may take a little more time.  What's interesting is that she seems to stay focused directly on my face and eyes in particular.  That's why I hardly seem to even have to use hand signals with her - she seems to go in the direction I send with my eyes.  I've never had a dog do that before - not on this level anyway.

Tim ,

My Australian Shepard, Maya  does that too.  Sometimes, it's spooky.  I just have to give her a look or a slight nod and she does whatever I "ask" her to do

cool

(but do get her on a leash, its the safest)

OMG - I can't keep the secret any longer!  I has a PUPPY!  I have not decided on a name for her yet, but she is SO sweet.  I just adore her, and she is *all* about me! [...]  Behold...

I'm in love already. I want one just like her.

Well, my dog also does fashion design.  She artfully distressed my jeans just this morning.

My dog, Lacy, just asked me why I didn't give her a cooler name like "Lola"... so, there's another sign you might want to stick with it  ;)
