I was wondering if anybody would like to share any healthy food advice and/or natural supplements that you find helpful and that could be of use for PLWHIV.
Please, do not include suggestions regarding "natural HIV remedies" or "snake oil treatments" that are intended as a replacement to current, standard HAART treatment recommendations, but instead just suggestions regarding healthy foods and/or natural supplements that might be of benefit for you.
In my case, since my recent diagnosis, I've started taking Omega 3 fish 1200mg capsules (2 a day), since I've read that it may help keeping triglycerides and cholesterol at bay (modestly), and there are no health risks currently known for this supplement. I'm concerned on CV health since it runs in my family. Also, nowadays I tend to add to my protein shakes a little bit of fresh ginger and turmeric, since I've read they might have anti-inflammatory properties.
I am also trying to avoid processed food, white bread, regular/sunflower oil (opting for extra virgin olive oil instead) and going more for whole grains, legumes, lean chicken breast or fish, nuts (walnuts, almonds and brazil nuts which are nature's richest source of selenium) and as plenty fruits and vegetables as possible.
It would be interesting to read what everybody else is doing to keep their health well from a nutritional point of view healthy.
Again, please bear in mind that this conversation is not to be taken as medical or health recommendations, which in such case are to be discussed with a professional dietist. My idea is merely to share recipes and/or general healthy food recommendations on this thread, if such a thing is allowed in the forums.
Hope everybody's doing well.
Best regards!

This is going to be fun.
I'll just remind people if claiming a health benefit to ensure you add links to peer-reviewed published works/
What I do is eat a balanced diet and I avoid processed foods, not claiming any specific benefits from it.

Don't worry about it, that's already part of the standard rules here and my job ;)

Hmm good remark, probably will have a hard time finding a proven health benefit from a reputable source! I'll try my best ;)
Is it allowed to share an article from a paid / subscription-based outside source (UpToDate)?
Jim Allen:
Burton Rose.
The thing with paywalled publications is barely anyone will be able to access them. My first place of call is https://scholar.google.com as ill normally find a public version or decent summary with a bit of clicking around.
