That is a lot of weight to gain. Is this a side effect of the meds you are taking? I would put a call in to your doctor.

well, I always weighted at 145lb and when working out at 150 lb, but over the New Years, I was at 128 lb because of thrush and PCP.

Since then I have steadily increased about 5-6 lbs per week, but not fat though.

For me, climbing up the weight ladder has taken eating a lot, and gaining and losing. I have managed to keep three more pounds on consistently for the past month though. I hope it is just healthy weight gain  for you.

Be sure that it's healthy weight gain and not water retention.  Hopefully it's the good weight, and that you are on the track to being you again :)

I started taking reyataz after a three year drug break. I had lost 65 pounds of lipo fat during that time period(exercise, diet, liposuction, and no drugs), within 6 weeks I gained 45 pounds back. I thought this was very humorous cause everyone was saying how reyataz didnt cause lipo. They had no real proof that it didnt, they just thought because of the what was in the drug and how it worked it wouldnt cause lipo or fat deposits
Reyataz also made me very sick and caused me to produce the most rancid odors in the history of man.

A weight gain that quick can also cause high blood pressure so please take that into account.  If it is water weight a diuretic will make you piss out most of it.  I'm sure they're checking your blood pressure anyway.

If you're losing fat in your face though due to lipo I don't mean to be a downer but most of it won't be returning except in the form of Sculptra injections.  At least you still have fat on your ass.  When you lose that too it makes riding the subway rather uncomfortable for a commute.

Blimey! 22 lbs in 1 month is a lot. How do you know it's not fat but muscle tissue? Did you measure your body fat or did you eat lots of proteins?

I gained 36 lbs during 3 months when I went on meds (Epzicom/Kaletra), and for me, that was a ginormous increase. In fact, I've never weighed so much in my life but I also had to fill up some wholes due to wasting. I put on weight on all body parts, especially on tummy and bum bum. My lippos are slightly increased but horse back riding has never been more comfortable than today (I don't do commuting).

well, the gain is mostly in muscles as my eyes can see, and probably overal fat too. my partner noticed that my butt fat has come back to the way it was previously, but my thigh are tighter and bigger and so are my calves. My uppoer body got bigger and my muscles more tighter and bigger.

its probably that testosterone shot i got about a month ago that just prompted me to eat eat and eat. My diet consists mostly of protien and vegies and fruit with some carbs from rice.

this all happened to me years ago after going on testosterone after losing 30 lbs.  It's no big deal as long as your blood pressure and other blood markers don't do odd things.

wow, Philly, can i, like, have you as my gay aids mentor?

You posted somewhere saying that after the testosterone, you gained everything back. Was that including your cheek at that time?

Also why did you say you started to loose weight again?

Well, let's see.  The first time I lost weight I'd just gone through a couple major HAART changes that weren't working, then my evil gay landlords decided to push us out of our apartment so they could charge another tenant 60% than we were paying after living there 5 years, so this necessitated a move during the '99 millennium celebrations.  Then that NYE I went out clubbing and was in a nightclub (VIP entrance of course) for about 20 hours and caught a nasty bought of bronchitis (I pick up lung infections very easily... have always since I was a little kid).

And to think just four months before that I'd looked so gym perfect in a tank top walking (ok... cruising) on 8th Avenue that I landed a 240 lb. Nigerian bodybuilder as a boyfriend... well, that all contributed to the first weight loss.  Everyone laughed when the following March I packed EAS protein shake powder and my own electric blender in my carry on luggage for a jaunt to South Beach, but throwing back 2 of those each day got me back to my modelesque form quickly.

The 2nd weight loss was two years later and much worse... went all the way down to 142 lbs from 173 or so.  Also had a bought of bronchitis that time too, plus I'd gone off the testosterone for about 4 months when I switched HIV doctors.  Anyway, I have the entire regaining weight back routine down quite good now.  Whole milk and lots of ice cream worked too, as did cheeseburgers.  I was just careful to monitor my blood-work for triglycerides, lipids, cholesterol etc. and I never had a problem.

Still, the weight didn't disperse to the regions where lipo had appeared, so nowadays while I have the weight all back my legs are still too thin to wear shorts (I'm probably over sensitive about it) and I still have no ass... but then again both my father and older brother have flat asses and skinny legs so mine is partly genetic.  Though I did USE to have a decent ass up until I was 35 or so... they didn't call me the Holland Tunnel for nothing!

Meds sure do weird things to the weight. A year ago I was upset I'd never get back to my normal weight. I was under some 20lbs. But now, I'm not only back to my normal weight, I am a bit concerned about gaining much more. And I always had low low blood pressure, it runs in the family. But the last labs my BP was 142. Should be 110-120. I had been shoveling snow just before the doc appt and they thought that might be the reason. So, high BP, high cholesterol. Whats next?

My story...between January '06 and May '06, I went from 175 lbs to 135lbs, mostly from an inability to stomach food, serious "runs" etc. As soon as I was diagnosed and on meds in late May, I started gaining weight back...5 lbs every 2 weeks or so to 155. I was at 155 for 4 months, then since December, I am back to my "fighting weight" of between 170-175.

It seems like my body is at its "ideal" weight (I'd prefer to be down in the 165 range). My cholesterol is 161 (I forget all the detailed numbers), but the Doc said it's right on target.

I was concerned because I gained around 20 lbs between mid December and mid January. I was afraid I would keep gaining, but weight had been steady for the past month, so I'm less worred.

To get to my "fighting weight", I was eating "a lot" ... which for me means both at meals and between meals and before  going to bed. At 175 lbs, seems my body tells me it's just fine with 3 meals a day.

Maybe when I can get back to the gym and working out after my work situation stablizes, I can get down to the 165 toned physique I crave.
