Do I have Hiv?
« on: April 24, 2021, 03:31:15 am »
I need help. I want to know if Im infected with hiv. I had insertive penetrative anal sex with a male about 54 days ago and I now have black brownish lines down some of my fingers. I know I didn't have this a year ago. I want to know if this is a sign of hiv? When I google black lines on fingers hiv pop up. I wore a condom but he put petroleum jelly on the condom. When I was done having sex about a hour later I filled the condom up with water to check if the condom broke and didn't see no rips or tears in it.

What happened a year ago?

HIV can't transmit through an intact latex or polyurethane condom. If a condom fails during the act of intercourse it's obvious to the insertive partner. There is no reason to be stressing about intercourse as long as this obvious issue did not happen.

Testing the condom after intercourse could damage the condom, as it's not designed as a reusable (re-stressed) product and this could lead you to mistakenly think that the condom was damaged during sex, when in fact you actually caused the damage after the intercourse by trying to "test" it with water. In short, testing the condom yourself before or after use is not a reliable way to tell you anything.

Testing condoms yourself is basically a step shy of paranoia if you ask me. Instead, use condoms correctly and consistently.

petroleum jelly

Although it was not an issue this time around, using petroleum jelly can weaken condoms and increases the risk of breaking during intercourse. Use condom safe lubricant next time.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions. Consider talking to your health care provider about taking PrEP going forward as an additional layer of HIV protection.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

Kind regards

Jim

You asked what happened a year ago. I noticed I didn't have black lines on my fingernails a year ago. I want to know if this is a connection to hiv because when i google black lines on fingernails stuff about hiv pop up. This is all after my exposure 54 days ago.

No it's not related as what you posted isn't an exposure.

Keep using condoms for any intercourse and as you are sexual active test out of standard routine at least yearly for STI's and HIV.

Ok so the black lines on my nails are not a concern?  Ok Thank you. What could the black lines on my nails mean then? One last question I got is what about microtears since vaseline was put on the condom. I hear that microtears are a myth and that hiv can't go through a microtear. Is any of this true?

Mircotears is not a real issue.

Black lines on your fingernails could be caused by several things, see your doctor so they can examine them.
