Reyataz, Norvir and Truvada causing Lipoatrophy...

Past couple months I been to my hair dresser who I have been going for the past 5 years, keeps telling me how I look really skinny on my face and I kind of have a sunken look so I shouldn't get my hair that short or else, it will exaggerate the boniness of my face. I was sort of devastated by her comment because this is exactly what I have been afraid of since starting the treatment and this kind of comment from other people seem to be the very first sign of one actually getting facial lipoatrophy.

So I am not sure why some people and doctors go on saying that this combo is Lipo friendly....

Tell ya what, why don't you be a mensch for a change and post pictures of yourself here? Take some responsibility for yourself. Step up to the plate, so to speak. Let us be the judge of the extent of your AIDS induced disfigurement rather than some meth addled scissor-monkey?

Errr...Could it be it's because they know a hell of a lot more than your local hairdresser.

but hairdressers are pretty observant (mine is she and she is very very nice!) espcially becaue they see you once in a while, they can tell when there are changes.. whereas a lot of time, hiv docs goes by reports and what other hiv specialist are saying...

for example, my roommate has been on sustiva, truvada combo for about 10 years, obviously has some major lipo going on, both dydtrophy as well as atrophy, but him like most of people like to go on ignoring it, i think... whereas trying to explore what other meds are out there that might less the effect of lipo....

And no, I didn't post on this board to get attention from LTS, but just really wanted to an answer

 random stuff...... For a nuke, Truvada is as fat friendly as they get...Reyataz also is gentler to your LDL and triglyceride levels than other PI's. Does that mean there won't be problems? No, but it means your odds are better. Have you been on this combo less than a year? That is pretty soon for observable lipo to show up. In a lot of cases it takes years.....take your complaints to your doc....they say if it ain't broke, don't fix it, but today, if you have lipo, it's broke!...

Unfortunately you cannot make comparisons between you and another individual on a different combo. Genetics and diet have an effect. I've been on Reyetaz, Norvir and Truvada for over two years. Since being on this combo I would say my lipoatrophy has stabilized, it has not gotten worse but also not improved.

I have been poz for so many years.  I had my share of lypo.  I had started on reyataz, norvir, and truvada since then my lypo has been stable and I am starting to feel better about myself.  I had over the past yrs made up excuses in the early 90 about my lypo.  At that time Doctors where starting to learn about it.  It really depend on you  and believe it or not how long you had carried this virus.  I still have lypo but I look better then I did in 10 years.  I go to the gym and eat healthy non fattening foods.  I am sorry to say it either do or die.  Lypo does take years for it to come out when it is because of the meds but I do notice that your t-cells in the beginning where very low.  So I am wondering if you had this disease for a long time.  If you did that might be the one of the mean reasons. The new meds are a lot better now then they were way back when.  Do talk to your doctor, but keep your chin up and don't let no one make you feel down and out.  My hairdresser always points out the good in me and no she doesn't know that I have it either.  You are not alone with this and I hope I answered your question.  been there
