I GOT A JOB!!!
« on: August 01, 2010, 03:11:08 am »
Hello all

After 1.5 years being out of work, I finally landed a job.  A very good job, making more than I had before.  I am very excited.  It is amazing because 1) my cobra runs out this month and 2) unemployment being what it is would run out soon.  I am so happy.  I thank all who have listened to me rant about being unemployed for a while.

Thanks

Pete

Good Pete -- I will move in with you and you can be my Sugar Daddy.  That said, next time I'm up in your area let's get together for a drink... or well a Shirley Temple :)  I'm SOOOOOO proud of you and I know a great relief has been lifted from you shoulders.

I can now get rid of that sexual frigid Rev. Moon for good :)

lulz... doesn't that actually work better?  a sugah daddy that expects nothing in return?

I once had the chance of being this older guy's financial beneficiary, but the thought of having anything remotely sexual with him made me cringe.  A certain acquaintance of mine went for it instead and was living like the queen of South Beach for about four years.

That's so great . . . and inspiring too.

Congrats.

I thought you had stopped COBRA and were on ADAP?

I wonder if the company that hired you knows about this:

WASHINGTON – The Treasury Department says businesses have hired 5.6 million workers under a new program that provides tax breaks for hiring unemployed workers.

The report, however, does not estimate how many of those jobs would have been added without the tax break.
President Barack Obama signed a law in March that exempts businesses hiring people who have been unemployed for at least 60 days from paying the 6.2 percent Social Security payroll tax through December. Employers get an additional $1,000 credit if new workers stay on the job a full year.

I started today.  It was a formal orientation as well as some lame sexual harassment videos from the 80s.  Tomorrow is my first "real" day at work.

I elected to keep my cobra coverage through August due to the low cost with the Obama Stimulus cut.  ADAP here is just drugs - if I had anything really bad happen to me, ADAP wouldn't cover shit.

I also will have no lapse of insurance coverage so no preexisting bullshit.

Thanks for all the well wishes.

Pete

I just got fired from my job last night, and HR called me back today to tell me they're gonna overlook the tardiness, and I'm not fired.  :/  who knew?

I've never EVER heard of anyone getting a job back without fighting for it.  This makes me so suspicious.

me too.. :)   I think they knew that they'd have to pay unemployment, so they tried to give it back.   ah well.

All employers pay unemployment tax as part of their normal payroll expenses, it's not like they have to pay extra when someone they employ gets unemployment benefits, those funds don't come directly from the employer.

So it must be that they like you or that they realized someone else might be a hassle to train or cost them more or something.

Maybe they did something illegal when they fired you and now are backpedalling?  Did you take the job back, Strayboy?

You may be correct, but I wonder why they always contest the unemployment when they fire someone?  I've been fired and know others who've been fired.  In my case and the others, they always contest it and send HR reps and/or lawyers to the hearing.  They must go to that work and expense for some reason.  The state almost always seems to rule in favor of the employee unless they did something really, really bad--at least here in KY.

We contest unemployment benefits because the premium you pay is adjusted upward the more claims your past employees make. Employers with the least turnover pay the lowest rates. Unemployment taxes for seasonal job can be brutal.  When a person uses up all his benefits that are linked to the employer which he filed against,  they move down the line to the next previous employer and that can cause the  rates that guy  has to pay on all  the current employees to go up.   If a person is fired for stealing, fighting  on the job or something similar, that is a justifiable termination, another reason to protest.  The thief should not be rewarded to sit on his ass and draw benefits for stealing.  You pay 8%  or your payroll for unemployment tax,  but if a lot of past employees file you may go as high as 30% which is the most I have heard anyone ever pay.  If you pay $13.00 per hour and 8% unemployment tax a 40 hour costs $41.60 per week tax.  If you pay 18% tax, the same employee costs you  $93.60 tax.  7 employees  can turn into a bunch of money real quick. Hope this helps explain things. Workman's compensation insurance  costs  work exactly the same way.
