Republicans Rethinking Overhaul of Medicare
« on: May 06, 2011, 11:44:47 am »
The article can be read in its entirety here

While top Republicans insisted that they remained committed to the Medicare initiative, which had become the target of intense attacks by Democrats and liberal groups in recent weeks, the lawmaker who would have to turn the proposal into legislation said he had no plans to do so any time soon.

The lawmaker, Representative Dave Camp, Republican of Michigan and chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, said that while he still supports the party’s Medicare approach, opposition from Democrats made it pointless to proceed.

“I’m not interested in talking about whether the House is going to pass a bill that the Senate shows no interest in,” Mr. Camp said in an appearance at the National Press Club. “I’m not interested in laying down more markers. I am interested in solutions.”

except they already passed this medicare-overhaul notion in their House budget  ::)
they're just not going to figure out how to legislate it because the Senate won't go along with it. :D

I'm gonna be 55 this fall, so by the time they do any of this, if they do, and I kinda doubt it, I don't really have anything to worry about here, I'm kinda grandfathered into this, so to speak , I'm gonna be a senior citizen this fall, so I'll be able to get a seniors plate @ Denny's.......dam I'm old  :-[

I don't plan on being a 'senior citizen' until I'm 65  ;)
although I may take advantage of some of the "50 Plus Shopper Perks" :D that are available in many places

I understand your point though. Being close to "senior age" and being on disability, I shoulde be "grandfathered" in also; but it's still troubling to see the Congressmen try to dismantle health care for the elderly and infirm. It's also troubling to see the same type of attack at a state level on Medicaid programs. I wouldn't dare say that these programs don't need enhanced, updated or fixed; but dismantlement or vouchers for private insurance is not the way to go as that removes the guarantee of health care.

Agreed, it's just down right disgusting, and wrong on so many levels.....the cutting of ADAP at the State's level, and everything else, they need to STOP taking things away form sick & old people...

MSNBC has an interesting article on how the Republicans changes to health care would have decimated Medicaid immediately, while holding off on medicare until 2022. It also discusses how many elderly use medicaid and the problems the Republican plan would have caused in caring for the elderly and disabled if they had continued with their overhaul

Sorry Denby... I think you need to read the bill.  I believe you and I are in the same boat.  I turn 55 this fall also.

The bill targets a specific year that is the cutoff.  If you turned 55 last year, you make the cut.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's the way I read it.

So I think we're both SOL if this garbage ever becomes law !

Well you might be, you still work, I retired in 97,  I'll get my full SSA when I turn 66 & 4 months  LOL....Politics as usual isn't it  ;D (election yr is coming)  ;D doubt it will pass, if it does, then I'll just qualify for more help, and just maybe get medicaid, that's even doubtful at my income-level, so I'm not to worried about it , I've been on full medicare A,B, 11 yrs. now got it back in 2000, & part D, I got that in 2006
I just don't see them taking that away form me, with the health problems I already have ;)
