I can see how productivity drops significantly during WC.
Germany beats Australia 4-0 ... let teh games begin! ;D
Meanwhile, some eye candy (http://www.youtube.com/user/CristianoRonaldo)...
Matty, could it have been any worse?.. :D

FINAL....Brazil v Argentina.
Oh my, that would be a total nightmare. ERs would flood with heart attack patients here in Brazil. We might declare war if we lost :-) But, given our performance today, I doubt we'll make it to the finals.
Oy. Defeated by the Hun. In South fucking Africa of all places. >:(
MtD
Damn, a zero too. Maybe if Rommel was the goalie you guys would have won.... or maybe if you guys had a goalie it could have been closer.
E AI O CARAI! Os brasileiros somos o melhor ne!
From the BBC website:
New Zealand achieve the greatest result in their history by holding defending World Cup champions Italy to a 1-1 draw.
I'm loving some of the unexpected results!
Jan, are you doing the happy dance?
O.K., I know virtually nothing about soccer. So how can a 1 - 1draw be considered "greatest result in history"?
Doesn't it mean they tied? How does that work? Neither team won? Again how does that work?
Shouldn't they just go into overtime or something until someone gets ahead?
RAB
BTW Jan isn't it way past your bedtime?
Well it's 1.55am and I'm all rugged up in front of the fire, New Zealand and Italy are just getting ready to Kick off...so unless you are italian I would like you all to barrack for EnZed...go the 'All Whites".. ;D.Great result!!!!
2 minutes and we are off.

Nossa amor, voce falar Portugues!
<Sweetheart, you speak Portuguese.>
;)
Claro q falo português q sou Brasileiro ne!
OK people, it's not soccer, it's FOOTBALL.
I'm great soccer fan
I think he's saying there's only one Wayne Rooney. :D
Oh dear
My bad Ann.. :D
Edited to add:..... when I lived in Australia and mentioned football lthey all thought I was talking about AFL (Aussie Rules Football) they call what we know as "Football" SOCCER over there, so I got into the habit of calling it Soccer..their National team is called "The Socceroos"...am I forgiven now.. ;)

OK people, it's not soccer, it's FOOTBALL.
American football isn't a ballgame restricted to the use of feet like proper football is. ::)
Jan, I typed v e r y s l o w l y so RAB would understand. ;)
I like our chances more with Ghana than against Germany!
Not only did we win, but we won the group. Which means England will face Germany and we will face (still unknown, as the matches are being played now) likely Ghana. I like our chances more with Ghana than against Germany!
Talk about drama...
Just seconds after England had their full-time win against Slovenia (1-0), comes the news that the USA scored an injury time goal to win against Algeria (1-0).
That means both the USA and England are through to the second round!
It's a measure of how emotionally all-over-the-place I am at the minute that I burst into tears when England's game was declared FULL TIME - and I'm still crying now. Sheesh, I've never cried over football in my life.
Considering it happened on the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend, I think not.
Is this what our proud troops died for? ;)
MtD
OK people, it's not soccer, it's FOOTBALL.
If the rest of the world can refer to "American football", why can't Americans refer to "international football"? The football played on this side of the pond is the older form, and it's proper name should take precedence. I mean jeeze, not this shit again...er... American football isn't a ballgame restricted to the use of feet like proper football is. ::)

For the record, Ann. The rules of soccer were agreed upon by the separate associations only in 1863. The rules of Australian Rules Football aka Australian Rules aka Aussie Rules (aka football to those in Victoria, SA, WA and Tassie) were agreed upon in the 1860. So, just which is the older form?
PS. Go the Allwhites tonight!!! And, how well is the USA going?

You posting as a yank or a brit?Ha! Always as a Yank! The weather in London is suppose to be absolutely brilliant this weekend. Both games (Sat and Sun) should be good ones to watch in a pub.
Ha! Always as a Yank!
Edited to add:...although I was disappointed about the result of last night's game, and even though NZ are now out of the World Cup, I just wanted to say they played some good fooball, and the Kiwi's are still proud of them..well done lads.
I hope we give Germany the kicking the Aussies couldn't manage.
Ah, that'll be a good match. The very soul of football. ;D
However. As for Sunday's match, Germania est delenda!!!
You better wake up Mr Rooney then. And start practicing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txNLo5mame0&hd=1) those (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpFFZMREce4) penalties (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2iNGFRtLkI). :o
I have a soft spot for the underdog so I'll also get behind the USA.
The best description of it I've ever heard is it's like sea gulls chasing a chip.
No way man. I'm still pissed off at them for thatfuckingunfortunate 92 minute goal.Fuckwads.Opportunist rat fucks.Amateurs.
Ann
(who is still knitting her brow over the whole football/rugby/soccer/whatever differences)
Well played Germany though I wonder how things might have turned out if that goal had been given - how did the officials miss that!!!!!!!
You were spared the horrible experiences of yet another desastrous penalty shoot-out. ;)
I'm still going for Brazil v Argentina for the Final.
Who do you think will be in the Final?

Jan :-*
It's a pity because I'm quite a fan of Maradona and I'd love to see his incredible career crowned by the title.
I hope this works it's well worth watching...Hitler and the World Cup.

You don't know what I've got lined up for tomorrow night.

So who's winning/won this thing? I'm a little curious since you guys have been talking about it but I have a lot going on lately so all I know is that the US is out of it.

THIRD PLACE
To be played Saturday 10 July @ 19:30 BST
Uruguay v. Germany
WORLD CUP FINAL
To be played Sunday 11 July @ 19:30 BST
Netherlands v. Spain
May the best team win!
We tried that here with our very own Mystic Octopus, just for laughs, (we are having our Rugby World Cup is next year), South Africa are here playing the All Blacks at the moment...obviously our Mystic Octopus knows nothing about Rugby, he picked SA to win, I can see where he is going to end up... ;D
I've decide to put my bets on Spain...they played a hell of a game against Germany.

Kalamari anyone?
My little home town came through for me..only two call outs (nothing serious) and back to the station in plenty of time to see the Final, and after all my terrible predictions I finally picked the right team... ;D
Well done Spain.

Is it me or was that a boring final? The players seemed to fight all time and no one received a red card. I know it's all about letting the players play but they didn't seem to be playing!
