Reyataz Combo w/o Norvir
« on: April 21, 2010, 01:56:40 pm »
I was at my doc's office today, and she recommended that I should go on a study or i can't remember if she said a study or a treatment where i take 400mg of Reyataz and Truvada without Norvir.

She said that Norvir is very toxic by itself, and since I am 5.8 at 167lb, light enough, that I should be fine without norvir.

Anyone else on this combo without the norvir booster?

2/22/07 197 T, 247 V, 6.8 %
3/27/07 164 T, <50 V, 5.4 %
5/28/07 177 T, <50 V, 8.2 %
7/28/07 214 T, <50 V, 9.6 %
10/3/07 380 T, <50 V, 10 %

Tenofovir, which is part of Truvada, significantly lowers the level of Reyataz, which is why the Norvir boost is used.

Reyataz can be combined with Epzicom without the Norvir boost.

It's a little troubling when doctors recommend things that are clearly questionable.

i am 5.11 and 140 lbs and i take truvada, norvir, reyetaz
weight has little to do with it; but the important issue is the absorption rates of the meds.

unless, as egello mentioned, that this might be part of a study.

which by the way egello is a serious difference between being prescribed an accepted regimen or being a part of a study "testing" an untried regimen. You really need to check back with your doc, and decide if you want to be a part of a study, if that is the option, or go with a known regimen.

Hi Egello

I take 200mg of Emtriva - 300mg of viread and 400mg of Reyataz, I dropped the Norvir (with my doctors permission) about a year ago, my numbers are good and I have remained undetectable since then with a small blip about a month ago...but it's back to undetectable now.

Hugs
Jan

I am undetectable on 300mg atazanavir + 100mg ritonavir + Truvada.

My treatment goal with my Dr. is to proceed to 400mg atazanavir + Truvada.

As my Dr. explained it to me, everything you said about atazanavir vs. tenofovir is true, but she went on to explain that some people deal with atazanavir differently and inherently have substantially more in their systems for a reason she didn't expand on.

A TDM (therapeutic drug monitoring) test is used to judge the amount of drug in your system and weather or not a person will be able to achieve viral suppression with 400mg unboosted on a case-by-case basis, a tailored regimen if you will.  I had a TDM test and turned out to have a large excess of atazanavir in my system, enough for when I have a longer history of being undetectable, we're going to try a one week trial of the 400mg version of the regimen, have another TDM, full blood tests for VL etc and then perhaps consider eliminating ritonavir permanently.

Jan, are you in BC? If so this seems to be something our facility seems to suggest sometimes!
