My lab results.

Hello everyone. I'm just a bit confused about something and I thought about taking your opinions.

Back in October my CD4 count was 307 and the CD4 percentage was 22% before I started the treatment. I started taking Atripla since then.
Today, I just got my results online, my CD4 count is 835 and the CD4 percentage is 14%.
I just don't understand why did my CD% drop but the absolute count increased? Any idea what could this mean? I haven't checked my VL yet (It was 6600 back in October) because the doctor didn't post it online.

your viral count will probably be much lower, expect good news there

percentage is a ratio, couple other members here have given great explanations of this... i really can't believe i'm about to do this, but

HEY ERIC!!! this ones for you buddy, don't overload him with data.

it has something to do with your cd8 count, and the ratio of each... your body is now fighting the virus, so your cd8 will shoot up during this time. as you become UD, and some time passes for your system to recover from the fight, expect that ratio to normalize

also, before you get uptight about any number, ride it out over the course of a few lab results... look at the trend. when you can graph those out, you see the progression and it tells more of a story

But I don't understand how my CD4 percentage was higher when my CD4 count was low? But now it's the opposite?
Isn't it supposed to be like, when my CD4 count increases, my CD4 percentage increases as well?

think of different sized cups, 1/2 filled with red marbles, 1/4 blue marbles, and a 1/4 green marbles

take the biggest cup that is half full of red marbles

and the smallest cup that is half full of red marbles

both cups are 50% filled with red marbles... but the absolute count of those red marbles is higher in the big cup

or something like that... i remember this from math class, red haired becky did the demonstration, she was great

seriously man, don't sweat this too much... your numbers are going in the right direction, thats the important part

wait for eric, he'll dazzle you with numbers and studies
